2nd Trimester

Pins and needles

Hi ladies, I'm 17 weeks and for the last couple of days I've had pins and needles in my right hand and it's constant. It's noticeable and I was wondering if anyone else had this as well?

Re: Pins and needles

  • Are those the symptoms for carpal tunnel? I have known many women who had it while they were pregnant.
  • Yeah I talked to my obgyn about the same thing mine started in the first trimester he said most women notice it due to the hormones the body releases during pregnancy to losen your joints. He said its most likely carpel tunnel.

  • Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome.  It's usually a nighttime symptom and if you shake your hands, it helps.  for treatment, you want to try and not compress the median nerve anymore.  ie: limit salt intake to control swelling (not sure if you have that), wear a night splint so your don't curl wrists together when sleeping, avoid repetitive hand work, make sure wrist position is good when on the computer.  Hope it goes away!

  • And drink lots of water. Mine flares up if I'm dehydrated.
