dressing up for the winter

I've never had to dress LO up for the winter here (well below freezing, snowy weather) and I'm feeling a bit clueless. At 6 months I think we just bundled her up in blankets and at 1.5 we weren't here for the winter. So I walk her down to daycare in her stroller, about 15 mins. And it will have to work for playing in the snow - I'm guessing the kids are taken out for play time in the winter too?

Here's what I have already for the outdoors: two piece snow suit, padded jacket, sweaters, stockings, gloves, muffler, woolly cap, ear muffs. I have no idea what sort of boots are appropriate, any links would help. Am I missing anything else? Should I buy something warm for the stroller itself? And do they wear the same shoes in daycare that they wear outside or do I get a second pair? Yah, really no experience with snow here.

Re: dressing up for the winter

  • Thanks everyone. I will have to check those boots out. It gets well below freezing for months at a time here too (we're in southern Canada, so a bit like Chicago in the winter).

We had a Bundleme, but I think she's outgrown it. Will have to look out for a waterproof blanket, thanks for the suggestion @Bellaxanthe.

I was wondering how "normal" it is to walk a toddler in this weather too... I just assumed if the sidewalks were cleared of snow it would be okay with a large jogging stroller. But is that still strange?

  • Okay good, thanks ladies :) We shall stop hibernating and walk!
