I'm wondering if DS has this. His innie went to an outie a few days ago - not much, but it sticks out a little. I'm keeping an eye on it and will ask ped at next visit.
My son had one (he's almost 3 now) and if resolved itself and it was pretty big all through the first year. I wouldn't be too worries, pedi might just being cautious! Hang in there
Wicked common, and they poop or cry it can jut out like crazy! Our surgeons prefer not to see them unless they're 4 or 5 and it's still no better, it's just so likely to close on its own... and it doesn't have the risk of getting incarcerated like other hernias. Obviously they'll come in earlier for pedi/parent concerns or reassurance, but try not to stress it too much
Each of my girls have had one. Our doctor says they are very common and resolve themselves. They haven't given us any problems. There's always an exception to such generalizations, though. Hopefully the surgeon is just a precaution since they're the expert. That's happened to us on a few things...I get so nervous thinking about surgery and then the surgeon, says, yeah...it's all good. So don't assume the referral means your LO actual needs surgery.
Re: Herniated belly button
DS has one but the pedi is not concerned. It is not very big though and she expects it to resolve itself by the time he is 7.
