Let's do something for Thursday

1. What has been your best achievement so far in life?

2. Do you think your best achievement so far will stay the best or do you think you can top it?

3. Tell us a crazy story. It can be about you or someone else or made up.

4. This spot is for talking about your kid(s).

5. This spot is for talking about whatever floats your boat.

Re: Let's do something for Thursday

  • 1. Best achievment would be how I handled coming back from Afghanistan becuase I was in the hospital from being blown up and found out my wife (at the time, ex now) was cheating on me and I hadn't had any time to mentally process everything that happened in Afghanistan. I got divorced did some counseling and got my head on straight and couldn't be happier with my life now.
    2. Not sure.
    3. My squad got tasked with route clearance to make sure there were no IEDs on the road. I was in the front with a medal detector and it started pinging. So I start gently brushing away the sand of the area. I found white lamp cord (commonly used for IEDs). To call EOD (the bomb guys) we had to confirm it was an IED by finding the pressure plate, the battery pack, or the bomb it self. So I traced my steps back took off everything on the front of my vest so nothing would fall out and trigger any pressure plate. Then went back and slowly brushed away sand for about 20 ft (damn near pissing my self the entire time) only to find that it was not connected to anything. Everyone gave me a hard time about holding the patrol up for an hour but they would have done the same thing.
    4. I don't know what it is but I just haven't been feeling a connection with our daughter yet. She's almost 4 weeks old and I expected my feelings to be different by now. I haven't told my wife cuz I don't think it would go over well.
    5. I haven't been fishing or hunting in awhile and with how much has been on my plate I just want to go sit in a blind with a case of beer. Not to shoot anything just to relax, get drunk and watch some animals that don't know I'm there.

  • 1. What has been your best achievement so far in life? It is a toss up between learning to live with Bi-polar prior to getting diagnosed and getting my engineering degree while working full time.

    2. Do you think your best achievement so far will stay the best or do you think you can top it? I highly doubt I will be able to top staying out of jail while being undiagnosed bi-polar.

    3. Tell us a crazy story. It can be about you or someone else or made up. I was in Germany for 10.5 weeks and if I wanted to, I could have gone down a different path and be speaking German now and married to a different person etc.  I am glad about my decision though I have my support group here.

    4. This spot is for talking about your kid(s). My son is doing really good in preschool.  He really enjoys it.

    5. This spot is for talking about whatever floats your boat. I really need to take a vacation to the mountains of central PA to recharge myself.  Life is getting more stressful and I need solitude in a forest to really recharge.

I don't think that's anything to worry about. She's probably not doing much yet. Just keep staying involved and that connection will come.
  • 1. Probably getting my FSA. Took 6 years and a lot of studying.

    2. I don't think I have the motivation or desire to top myself. I just want to enjoy life now.

    3. Don't really have a crazy story. I just wanted to hear everyone else's.

    4. My kids are fantastic. I thought I'd be too tired to enjoy them, but nope. Sleeping good and I'm handling the crying better than I did the first go around.

    5. A vacation sounds pretty good to me too.

  • @Tobedad I completely agree with Polooo.  Hang in there and take every opportunity to watch her grow.  It will become amazing to watch and the connection will happen!
  • 1. What has been your best achievement so far in life?

I like this question...it made me think.  Unfortunately, I didn't like the thoughts as I don't feel that I accomplished much thus far.  Never too late to change....I am very proud though of the work I did as a perinatal educator for a local hospital system.  I was able to look at new dads and watch the transformation from "OMG I am going to do something wrong" to "oh, its ok, I won't break the baby, I am confident to have my new child."

    2. Do you think your best achievement so far will stay the best or do you think you can top it?

The classes I taught were so very rewarding, I don't know if I will ever be able to do that again, or accomplish anything so fulfilling!

    3. Tell us a crazy story. It can be about you or someone else or made up.

In college, I spent 5 weeks in England for a Winter study.  One long weekend, me and two buddies rented a car and drove to Scotland, my ancestral home.  It was fantastic.  We slept in the car parked next to Loch Ness and it was the coldest I have ever been in my life!!  Every time we got in the car the passengers would yell, "LEFT SIDE" since American's drive on the wrong side of the road.  ;)  Last great accomplishment of this trip, I peed into England from Scotland on the side of the M-Way.  Hey, I'm Scottish-American!  :)

I could talk for hours about my kids.  :)  One thing I want to say, as a father to other fathers, there is not ONE DAY I would trade away with my kids.  Not the worst day (and I think I have had one of the worst), or worst fits would I trade for a day without them.  They are the loves of my life and each day we have together is a blessing and makes us who we are, and I love them.

I am upset that my poor planning means my wife and I won't have a Baby-moon.  We have three girls already, so it meant a lot to my DW to go away with just me for a weekend.  Its just not something we can do right now both financially nor time-wise.  I really don't like disappointing my DW.
