I think having a garbage limit (when recycling is also picked up at your door) is a great idea. This is pretty unpopular where I live, we are only allowed 3 bags of non recycling, non-organic waste every other week, but I think its genius.

I agree and I'm jealous! Our recycling gets picked every other week and they only takes what's in your can. Garbage comes weekly and if it's too full you can leave stuff next to your can and a separate truck comes and gets it. I can fill my recycling in a week but to fill my garbage can it can take 2-4 weeks! I hate driving on garbage day because of how much crap I see thrown out that should have been recycled.

I was just reading about how certain European countries produce a fraction of the amount of household trash that US families do. It's depressing how wasteful we are. I wish they'd start to eliminate most single-use products in this country. I try and pack my kid's lunch with a cloth napkin, bento box and reusable food containers, and real utensils every day. It's not that difficult and it keeps so many ziploc bags, plastic forks, tin foil pieces, and paper towels out of circulation. Here in the States, what I do is considered weird. In Norway, that's the norm for kids who take lunches to school.
@melOHdy you make such a great point! I am often disappointed and want more pantry space. But I do buy a lot of crap that ends up the sitting around and am therefore wasting money. Larger pantry is officially off my wish list for dream-future house. I will never give up my second freezer though, that thing is a life saver.
I'm not sure if this counts as an UO but the house cleaners we hired are here now and I feel so guilty. I thought I would be excited but I feel like such a failure for not being able to take care of my house. I keep feeling the need to explain myself and why we need them. They are usually going to be coming on a day when I am at work so maybe that will help me feel less guilty going forward. I think my mom and Catholicism have scared me in the mommy/wife guilt department.

See, I think that can also be a great thing though because then you can also buy in bulk, which means less packaging and less trips in the car. It's all about using the space you have wisely.
Which I suck at, but I'm trying to get better.
Also trying to go the GraceInCA route and trying to go to as much reusable packaging as possible. Currently trying to rid my life of ziplocks and plastic wrap.
I think I need to start thinking about my pantry like I think about clothes. I'm extremely hesitant to buy new cloths because my closet/drawers are bursting and the frugal part of me refuses to part with anything if it still fits. This works great because it has kept me from spending a lot of money on clothes. Our grocery budget is out of control lately, so I think that putting this logic to my groceries would be a great idea for me.
I've gotten a lot better about using reusable containers. DD rarely has a ziplock bag in her lunch. Having them organized in their own space and having a variety of sizes has definitely helped with this. I think I need to look into a bento box type thing because I hate having a pile of 8 containers + lids to clean every evening.
Re: UO b/c it's Thursday!
