AH: Mr. pooped in the toilet

And aren't we lucky!

Yep, baby W decided about 3 weeks ago that he would pee EVERY time we plopped him into his bath.  So we started putting him on the potty as we ran the bath water.  And wouldn't you know it, he peed every time then, too! So for the last two weeks or so we have been potty training.  Which is mostly him in training underwear and us putting him on the potty every 30/60 minutes.  Yes, he has lots of mistakes.  But he goes dry a LOT.  Now hates being "dirty."  Grabs the crotch of his drawers and says, "potty" or "uh-oh," depending on if we are pre-pee or post-pee.

Well, today he farted on the little potty and then later said, "potty, potty!" and we went to the potty, he sat there playing with a flashlight and BAM!  Kid was dropped off at the pool!  Way to go, boy!

Of course, while I was writing this he was banging on the bathroom door; his sister is in there having a bath.  A minute or two later he comes and climbs up on the couch next to me, saying, "Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh."  Yep, peed.  Doh!  Yes, he uses the big potty and more than likely needed to pee.

Well, anyway, just a really proud moment.

FWIW, yes, he is 17 (almost 18) months old, and yes, sometimes he cries when we put him on the potty, and yes, he has a LOT of accidents and no, we don't think he is precocious or special.  But really, what else could we do? Kid liked peeing in the potty, so we try to help a brother out.  You can't imagine how many judgey looks we have received, and how many comments of how young he is.  No, we aren't waiting until he is three to start, even if it takes him till then to finish.  :)

Anyway, I am tickled. :)

  • Woohooo go little W!!!

FYI - we started at 18 months (yes still going strong at 26 months....) but when K's in underwear he's 90% dry. It sounds like your little guy is doing an amazing job. I bet he's completely potty trained really soon. Congrats Mommas!!

  • That's awesome!! We've started over here too, mostly because they started at daycare and we want to be consistent. Right now he just sits on the potty, but I think we are close to putting something in there. No rush, though. We have a toilet that flushes in a cool way, so that's like the best reward EVER for him. We sometimes dump the contents of his diaper in there so he can flush it. It's pretty cute. Oh, and he LOVES to say "PooPoo!" Seriously @Karlamo ... who knew?

@twomomsintx, it's nothing fancy.  It just has a little know that you pull up from the top of the toilet.  Apparently it's crazy fun for a toddler.

  • I've always heard that if they're interested, it's not going to hurt letting them go! I work in a toddler room (one yr olds) and we don't potty train, but we will sit a child on the toilet if their parent says they're trying. It doesn't happen often and typically if the parents says they're going potty at home.... They don't want anything to do with it at daycare! We recently had one like that where the parents said he was going all the time at home and then at school he wanted nothing to do with it... Cried, told us no, etc. Thankfully his parents didn't push it and decided to wait and be more aggressive about it once he turned two.

I actually had a parent insist we potty train her 14 mth old once. She literally brought him in underwear, but no matter how often we took him, he would never go and then have accidents. She eventually gave it up when she was sick of having to wash so much dirty underwear.

That all being said (sorry I hijacked your thread with potty stories lol) That's awesome news! Good luck and here's hoping he keeps up the good work!
