Hi ladies -- first time poster on this board, looking for some inspiration. I'm due with my second baby, a girl, in less than six weeks. I have a two-year old son named Daniel Charles, whose first and middle names are my husband's and my maternal grandfathers. Choosing his name was easy. This time around I'm seriously struggling, and I would love any suggestions you can throw my way (a girl can only stare at name inspiration lists for so long!).
A few things to consider:
- Our Italian last name starts with a soft A and is vowel-heavy, so I don't want to use a name that ends in an A sound (I don't want first and last names to run together).
- I tend to like classic names -- I don't mind that my son will likely grow up with other Daniels in his class, but don't want a name that in 20 years will be looked back at as "so 2014." Any name that falls near the top 10 list is definitely out of the question.
- I was stuck on Katherine (nn Kate) for quite a while, which is a family name. But, my mother-in-law's name is Cathy and for various reasons I don't want it to look like we're naming after her. Plus, my husband isn't crazy about Katherine. I thought about Kaitlin/Katelyn (also would be nn Kate), but I'm thrown off by the number of alternate spellings and would prefer for baby girl not to have her name misspelled her whole life. I also love Molly, but that's my parents' dog's name, so it's a no-go.
- My husband suggested Jocelyn, which I think is pretty, but I'm really not sure that I'm sold on it.
Help!! TIA!
Re: Completely stuck on baby girl names
I think that's part of it -- our last name is constantly misspelled and mispronounced, so it seems mean to stick her with a first name that's also likely to cause issues.
