Will I run out of meds?

I'm currently taking 225units of Gonal F and 150 of Menopur each day. But they only ordered me 3 of the 450 Gonal F pens. So I only have enough for three more days at that dose. They estimated my ER wouldn't be until 9/19. Is it common for them to reduce the dosage at some point? Or take the Gonal away all together? At this dosage I only have enough for three more days.

Re: Will I run out of meds?

  • They could lower or increase your dosage. It all depends on your blood work and ultrasounds. My last cycle I took Follistim at 225 for a good 5 days and then went down to 125 for a few days and then increased to 300 for the rest of the cycle. Typically you will take Gonal f all the way up until your trigger shot. I would call them and order some meds asap if you need them. You don't want to run out!

  • I would call your doc and let them know. I made the mistake of assuming I had enough because this is what they gave me, they should know right? I was left scrambling for more Gonal at the last minute.
  • I have a monitoring apptmt with my local RE in the morning. When my regular nurse calls with the results in the afternoon, I'll ask her about it. I didn't think about it until last night when i finished the first pen in two days. Seemed like I'd run out pretty quickly unless they reduced the dose significantly.

  • Every monitoring appt that I had my nurse would ask how much I had left because I only ordered enough to get me through the next monitoring appt. I tried to only order exactly what I needed because it's so expensive. I ordered my meds from freedom and got free next day delivery so I could do it like that. My dosages would go up most of the time, but once down, depending on my blood work.

You may want to ask your nurse. You may also have refills at the pharmacy on file. Don't forget each pen has about 70-80 iu of overfill in each. So with those 3 pens you have you can get approx another 210 iu almost a full days dosage.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • My dosages have always gone up so definitely talk to your nurse.

  • My doses went up for both of my IVF cycles.  I stimmed for 12 days for IVF#1, and I ran out and ended up borrowing a vial from my RE's office, that I had to later replace.  (I felt super lucky that they had extras there).

Keep an inventory of what you have and what you use, and call the nurse armed with that information.  Freedom does have next day delivery, but I don't know if that's at all effected by the weekend, plus you need to have someone available to sign for the packages - so if you need to make arrangements, factor that in to the time needed.  (My MiL is retired, so I was able to have all of my meds shipped to her house).

  • I would order my meds Friday afternoon from freedom with next day delivery and receive it sat morning. I could do with or without signature. I always did without because I was always afraid I'd miss the knock/doorbell or have to run out of the house for a min.

They don't have Sunday delivery and all area's don't have Saturday delivery either.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • If you're close to triggering, consider getting your meds from a local infertility pharmacy. The ones near me let you return unused meds. They're a little more expensive than Freedom but it makes sense if you think there is a chance you won't use them.

  • My RE intentional under-orders meds.  They don't want you to spend more money than necessary. I had to order two additional vials of gonal-f, but freedom fertility gets it to you quickly.

  • I had a monitoring apptmt this am and they did lower my gonal-f dosage but I'll still need more. I called Freedom Pharmacy today at lunch and the meds will be here tomorrow. I'm guessing my nurse did the same @alpCRNA. Thanks!
