ncdr: next stage swaddle?

What do your babies sleep in? I used the miracle blanket for both my girls and love it, but miss A is 90th percentile for height, so she is basically outgrown her swaddle already. :-( She constantly busts out of it, and I think it wakes her up.

She's not even 4 months yet, so I feel like she still needs that feeling of being snug in order to sleep well. And she's starting to wiggle around a lot more, but not rolling over yet.

I was looking at the summer infant wrap sack, but not sure. And hubs probably won't want to spend $40 on a MMSS.

Ideas?

Re: ncdr: next stage swaddle?

  • The halo is generously sized. But I stopped using it arms-in because when R would try to bust out of it, there was so much fabric he could pull it up to cover his face. Not good. I still use it as just a sleep sack with arms out.

Since R was busting out of the swaddle every night early on, I just stopped putting it back on for a few nights. When that was ok, I stopped the swaddle completely. He's 14 weeks. He's been either in footed PJ's or a sleep sack (A&A) for the last week or so and been fine. I was surprised but its really been fine.

  • I'm still swaddling giant baby in a muslin blanket when he needs it.

  • I wish my kid would take a blanket.

I found halo and the neck size too big. Plus ds hated them. He just wears jammies.

I like the a+a ones. And oddly enough the kushies.
  • I got another month of swaddling in using this when DD was little:

She has always been long (90-95%) but this worked for that time when I felt like she still needed the swaddle but her swaddle me blankets didnt fit anymore.

  • Little girl loved the halo swaddle sack. I loved that when I felt it was time to go to just a sack I could try it for a few nights before committing to buy a regular sack. In the end she was ready to be out of the swaddle before she out grew it, so I just cut the wings off and kept using it wad just a sleep sack.

  • I didn't read the other posts...but the summer infant swaddle pods were terrible. They were so loose (fabric) my son would get his arm stuck out through the neck hole

  • Thanks for the suggestions!

I've tried an A&A swaddle blanket, but they are too stretchy for her. She busts out way too easily and then there is a bunch of loose fabric around her.

Maybe I'll pick up one of the halo swaddle sleep sacks. Thanks for the sale recommendation, Maple!

I wish I could try a MMSS, but it'd take a lot of convincing with DH, I think. He just doesn't get it b/c he's not the one getting up in the MOTN.

Make him do the wakeup. He'll catch on quick ;)

  • Haha Meesh, I wish! But he doesn't have "the goods" so it doesn't make sense for him to get up with her. He does get up with R if she wakes, but that is rare these days.

  • It's hilarious when they move their arms in it. L looks like one if those limitless hand puppets where you have a thumb and pinky inside the arms.

I'm not sure what autocorrect changed to limitless but I'm leaving it.

Seriously.  I could almost tattoo that statement on my body.
  • Another vote for MMSS. Saved my life! My son never slept until we got his. That said, we were able to transition my daughter away from swaddling at 3-4 months with no issues and without any extra swaddle products.
  • I have a MMSS that we tried, but didn't work out. I will list it on the swap if anyone is interested in trying it for cheaper. I bought it used.

DS was swaddled till he rolled over at 10 months. The halo swaddle sack is what he preferred. I honestly almost broke it out last night when he didn't want to go to bed.

What about for toddlers? M will not keep a blanket on her. She moves too much. Been fine all summer but I feel like she's gonna need to sleep in a snowsuit this winter. I know they make sleep sacks with feet for walking- but I don't know if she'd like that.

We didn't go blankets until R was in a toddler bed, which wasn't until her 2nd birthday. Just footed PJs. She never really needed the extra blanket with the fleece jammies.

ETA: we also bought a toddler pillow for her bed to help her figure out how to lay in one direction. It took about a month, but the blanket and pillow eventually became part of her bed time routine. And we taught her how to cover her own feet so we didn't have to when they got uncovered.... and then she wanted all.the.blankets. covering her.lol

  • E is still in a crib (FFTC?) and has a pillow and a pillow pet on one end, and uses an A&A blanket to cover up with.  She is really big on us covering her up.  Most nights she kicks the blanket off, so we make sure she is wearing weather appropriate PJs.  But she has recently started covering herself back up.

  • TJ, keep E in that crib as long as possible! I was not prepared to remove the side rail on R's crib, but she climbed out of it on her birthday when she was supposed to be napping, and we didn't want her doing it again and getting hurt. I would have kept her in there until she turned 3 if possible!

  • @stringy813‌ We wound up putting a heater in N's room on winter nights. It has a thermostat and kicks off and on to keep the room at a certain temp. It also has an auto shutoff if it gets knocked over. But we also live in a much warmer climate, so that might make a difference.

  • @TJ1979 my DS is still in a crib, too.  DH keeps asking when we are going to transition him into a bed because "everyone's" kid is sleeping in a bed.  I say if it ain't broke, why fix it?
  • Sleepsuits and cribs for lyfe!
  • I feel sorry for all your crib-sleeping toddlers! You know they're going to grow up to be adults with that fetish for acting like a baby and wearing diapers and such. Gaw, when are you going to teach your kids to grow up and sleep in a real bed?! If they tend to wake up too much at night, just put a little beer in their sippy cups before bed. It works like a charm!
