Would this be inappropriate?

DS loves his teacher from last year and the feeling seems mutual. Our baby sitter is my niece but she just got a new job and her availability is crappy now. Would it b inappropriate to ask the teacher if she would like to baby sit on occasion?

Re: Would this be inappropriate?

  • My first thought is that it would be inappropriate...conflict of interest maybe?

  • Yeah that's what I was concerns about. Even though he is no longer in her class he's still at the same school

  • Oops, somehow overlooked that it's his teacher from LAST year - might be borderline o.k. in this case...maybe talk to her and get her feelings on it?

  • Mmm, I guess I don't really know. At first glance it seems a little inappropriate. If he really loves her though and she'd be willing to babysit then I don't really think there's anything wrong with it. I would just casually bring it up and ask. Worst she could do is say no.

  • Most of the teachers at our preschool are moms, but the ones who aren't or have older kids babysit, do you know if she babysits?
  • My sister still babysits a boy from her very first year of teaching. He was even the ringbearer at her wedding.

I have died every day waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years. And all along I believed I would find you, time has brought your heart to me. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you a thousand more.
  • I would try and feel her out first.  My DD loved her teacher from last year & I know her teacher loved her. Her teacher was an older lady with grandkids & always told me DD reminded her of her own grandchildren.  I had often thought if she would ever consider babysitting once she was no longer in her class. Well she now lives in Belize with her DD so it's a non-issue.

Last year at Pre-School orientation the director made the statement "we love your children but don't want t babysit them after hours".  I thought that statement was a bit odd but I guess pre-k teachers get asked all the time & that is why she felt the need to make the blanket statement.

  • DDs school actually hands out a list of teachers looking to make extra cash by babysitting.

  • You never know until you ask.  Being as it is last years teacher, I don't think it's inappropriate.
