Prenatal Workouts

Hi everyone! Kind of new to the forum & was just wondering what everyone's exercise routines were like. I used to lift weights 4-5x a week and do some cardio up until a few months ago & have gained a considerable amount of weight (I think). Anyone using DVDs? Anyone doing some weight training? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Re: Prenatal Workouts

  • There are plans to do a weekly fitness check-in. The first one was yesterday. Check out that thread & see if you can find the answer to some of your questions! People seem to be doing a variety of things.

  • I have continued with everything I was doing pre-preg so I am still weightlifting 4x a week, yoga 2x a week, and running 3-4x a week. It all depends on what you were comfortable doing before baby.
  • Thank you for your replies & recommendations!
  • Prenatal yoga and swimming are great.

  • Gonna re-start my exercise routine (adjusted of course) in a couple weeks
This fatigue and increased sleep is really messing my motivation & schedule

  • @janeshops the fatigue and nausea really kicked my butt & threw my routine way off! all i've wanted to do is sleep and eat carbs, lol!
  • @ally3242 definitely looking into those types of workouts to replace my dear old zumba & heavier lifting!

  • @keeweewee I actually know quite a few women who zumba'ed a fair amount of their pregnancies - maybe just tone it back some on some of the jumping, but I'm planning on zumba-ing as long as I am able. :)
  • I'm also waiting for my energy to come back up. right now im at work trying not to fall sleep. :(

i dont want to regret not working out since it makes a huge difference once you have the baby.

  • Vomiting and fatigue have killed a lot of my workouts, but Target had a couple of DVD's for prenatal stuff - I got the yoga and the cardio ones and I like them.  Also I continue to try to run but I am much slower and have to walk a lot more.  Good luck to you!

  • @negreen1‌ finally went to target and found some DVDs! Thanks for your input :)
  • @Yalmont‌ same here :( FINALLY just getting my energy levels up. Will start exercising regularly. I hope.
  • @Anne1387‌ thanks for your input ;) I will def try to pick up Zumba again.
  • I've continued my pre-pregnancy workouts and push through the fatigue. Just trying to stay on my grind!!!
  • Piyo is great because it's low impact and also kinda loosens you up. Unfortunately, my exercising has had to take a backseat while I deal with vomiting and incredibly low energy levels!
  • I teach barre and it's a great pregnancy workout. Small movements using your body weight.
  • I've found a lot of great, free videos on Pinterest and PopSugar Fitness. The PopSugar videos are usually 10 minutes each, so I try to do 2 different ones before work everyday. Some are easy, some are not, but at least you can change it up and not get sick of the same workout everyday. I love doing Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown level 1 (free on YouTube) too!
  • I haven't been able to run like i used to, but i've been walking 1.5-3 miles maybe 5-6 days a week and doing lighter weight lifting 2-3 days a week. I would love to run or at least jog again, but too much joint pain/tummy troubles :-(
    Together since 5.16.05 (16 & 19yo)
    Married since 3.6.10 (21 & 24yo)
    Baby Olivia coming 4.14.15 <3 (26 & 29yo)

@cali2090 Thanks for the suggestion! I've been hearing things about it, but haven't looked into it yet! Finally getting some energy again though! Yay!

@ashleighcdoll Thanks for the suggestion, doll! I've never done it before, but definitely worth a try!

Aww, hopefully you'll be able to get back into it soon! `=]
  • Hey @keeweewee‌ ! I'm new too and had the same curiosity :) I was a big outdoors gal, used to swim, bike run and hike long distances (non-competitive triathlete, novice hiker). Training for the Half Dome hike until I found out I was preggers- my doc put the kibosh on that one pretty quickly- "intense exercise in excess of 20 minutes without rest will starve your baby" she says. Sigh.... Now.... The following individual 30 minute workouts works for my delicate state- 1) 1/4 -1/2 mile lap swim 2) 10 mile STATIONARY bike 3) 2 mile brisk walk Good luck!
