Late Term and Child Loss

Bleeding

When I lost my son my midwife told me the bleeding would only last a few days, like a period. Mine was heavy for 3 full weeks, spotted off and on, became heavy again at 4 weeks for a few days, stopped completely then started spotting off and on and now at almost 6 weeks it is heavy again. Is this normal? I go see her tomorrow but I would like the experiences of others.

I was told pp bleeding can occur up to 6 weeks out. Some people do regain their normal (though not always regular) cycle again by 6w. Especially when not nursing, the body can start again fairly quickly. I would talk it over though to ease your mind.

I was also told that pp bleeding can occur up to 6 weeks out. I bled heavily for the first week, then I bled on and off for three more weeks. I had a week of no bleeding, then my first cycle post-loss started (it was like a normal period, so I counted it as my first cycle, as did my OB). I hope you can get some answers tomorrow.

I don't recall exactly how long I bled, but it was definitely longer than a period. Hope you can some answers tomorrow!
  • I bled fairly heavily for three weeks, than a week of spotting, a week of nothing, and then my "regular" period showed up at 6 weeks. My doctor said this was all normal and very similar to what you described. Hopefully your doctor can give you some peace of mind tomorrow.

  • I bled for about 2 straight weeks afterwards, then stopped until I ovulated and got my regular period at 4-5 weeks. Some days were heavier/lighter than others. I've read it's not uncommon to start and stop bleeding as everything heals.

I had bleeding for about 10 weeks following Jack's birth. It was heavy the first week-ish and slowly tapered off but didn't fully go away (for more than a day at a time) for a good 10 weeks.
