How long would you wait after getting a new job before TTC?

I just started a new job in November. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this job. The pay is excellent and the people are great. I work from home and travel just the right amount.

I don't want to do anything to put this job at risk. I also don't want to wait too long to expand my family - I am going to be 36 in Oct.

How long would you wait to TTC? (Just taking the job into account and no other factors)

In my bag: Nikon D90; 35mm 1.8, 90mm 2.8 macro (my fave), Lensbaby Composer with macro extensions. BFP after 13 cycles and one ectopic. Lost left tube 5/19/10.

  • I transferred into my current position from another position in the same firm in September.  I also LOVE my job.  We are waiting until August to TTC partly because of this.
  • I found out I was pregnant two weeks after starting a new job.  I was lucky that they were so great about it - but I had horrible morning sickness and it was definitely hard to prove myself as a good employee while spending so much time throwing up in the bathroom.

    I'd wait a couple months.

  • I accepted a job two months before I got pregnant with Emerson and it turned out that I had to be there a year before I had all my benefits.  I stayed exactly a year (2 days before Emerson was born.)  You may want to consider this as well.  I was 36 when Emerson was born.  GL to you.

  • I got pg about 13 mos after I started at work.  I think 9 mos min.  You have to be able to prove yourself, before it looks like you are taking advantage of the benefits.
  • well you can't get 12 weeks FMLA until you've worked there til next November so if that matters to you, then you've got to wait.

But biology and so many other factors play a huge role.

They know I already had the benefits through my DH's job.

It's not just insurance and such... when it comes to getting pg you have to consider STD, maternity leave benefits - those things wouldn't be through your DH. If you want to get paid maternity leave, you need to be there at least 12 months before your leave starts. So you wouldn't be able to get pregnant until you've been there at least 3 months.
