Blighted ovum

Any successful stories on blighted ovums? May sound silly, but in my case what appears to be a sac in my uterus is empty but their not terminating my pregnancy just yet because my hcg levels keep rising. And they think it may just be too early to see anything right now. Just praying that we make progress.

Can they see a yolk in the sac? If that's there then SOMETHING is definitely there.

I've said my story many times on this board but here it goes again....my first and second u/s I was way behind based on my LMP and probable ovulation etc. My levels were over 18k so the doctor even said "we really should be able to see something at this point". The sonographer basically said "miscarriage" as there wasn't much growth of any sort between the first and second u/s but that wasn't the case  my betas were doubling really well so they did a follow up ultrasound and a week later all was well and there was a heartbeat/baby developing etc. based on my dating I ovulated 11 days late!!!!!!! Omg!!! 5-7 weeks is so early and dating can be wrong. You could have ovulated late or implanted late...Early U/S can be very unreliable and dating can be +/- a week. Also a doctor friend of mine said even the technique the sonographer uses can change the measurements a little bit. I am now 11 weeks but measuring almost a week AHEAD! Woah! Will I have a successful pregnancy? There are no guarantees but I can tell you THIS the first and second ultrasound were definitely not indicative of where I am now. I think my ob/gyn was even shocked!

Were you tracking your temp or using OPKs? If not it is so possible you ovulated/implanted late. It can also be harder to see if your uterus is tilted or something. 

Check out misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com there are a million stories of misdiagnosed blighted ovums. I am so sorry you are going through this but don't give up hope just yet. It is hard if you've had losses before but someone has to believe in us. Prayers and fingers crossed for you. Don't take the pill or do anything drastic until you are absolutely positive.

What were the first and second numbers? They should double within 48-72 hours. If they are indeed on that track you have a lot to hope for. Call the nurse or something and ask them. They will tell you it is your medical record!

i'm sorry you're going through this.  my first pregnancy was a blighted ovum.  second pregnancy was twins, one turned out to be a blighted ovum.  the other is developing right on cue

My SIL thought she had a BO and the OB scheduled her for a D&C for a few days later.

A few days before the D&C she started bleeding and she went to the ER because it was a Saturday and she wasn't sure what else to do. When they did an U/S on her they saw the baby!  The bleeding stopped and that baby will be turning 2 in December!

The OB was awful to my SIL and we go to the same office...Thankfully she no longer works there.

I have had blighted ovum's twice. One time numbers didn't double. Second time did in the beginning but like 58 hrs instead of 48 then they leveled out. Both times I started bleeding even on progesterone suppositories. Good luck! It sounds to early.

I ovulated late with my first. 10 days late. First appt we saw nothing but a sac. They didn't give me measurements but they also were not quick to Dx as a m/c or BO. Went back to the doctor a week and a half later or so and found baby with a heartbeat. He is 9 now:) I really REALLY hope the same for you!!!

I'm glad your doc is being cautious and is waiting to see how things progress. I agree with others that it is too early to diagnose your pregnancy as a BO. FX that it was just too early to tell.

My loss in December was a BO.  I contacted my doctor when I started spotting at seven weeks, within a day that turned into bleeding. They did an u/s to confirm, and saw only the sack. 

It sounds like there are a lot of women who had great outcomes that started off just like you. I'm sending T&Ps your way that it was just too early.

Hoping everything works out well for you!

I thought I was 7w5d. Went for a u/s yesterday because I had some light brown spotting. They found the gestational sac and yolk sac but no heartbeat yet. The tech said I was only measuring at 6w2d. I go back next Friday to re check. The spotting has since stopped. So stressful! I was pretty sure of my dates so I don't know how positive I can stay

My first scan they were only able to see the gestational and yolk sac. A week later, we saw everything! Fingers crossed for your next one, sounds like a good start!

I hope the little one appears on the scene soon. I'm not trying to worry you, but I had a yolk sac on my December scan.
