Rash under ring?

Anyone else? My ring is not yet tight on my finger or anything but I have an itchy red poofy rash under it. Taking it off for a couple of days. Any suggestions to help it go away/keep it away?

Re: Rash under ring?

  • I have the same problem and have since I first got pregnant. I cleaned it several times but it kept happening. I got a simple sterling silver band and wear that now instead of my wedding ring and no rash.

  • I hate wearing jewellery when I'm pregz
  • Is it white gold? You might be having a nickle sensitivity. You can try having it rhodium plated (usually around $40-50, and should be done to white gold every 2 years or so at least).

Otherwise just chalk it up to crazy hormones and skin sensitivities and swollen fingers! I can't wear my engagement ring anymore but can still manage my wedding band. I hopefully can manage that for awhile longer, since I have learned people say obnoxious things around here if you have a big belly and no wedding ring, and unlike many girls I know here, I refuse to buy another ring just to wear around during pregnancy.

  • I'm allergic to the nickel in jewelry to the point I wear stainless steel jewelry, bc if there is any nickel I'll break out in hives within a couple hours. There is plenty of jewelry out there :)
  • I get that in the summer generally, I think it's because my fingers swell a bit and the hot humidity doesn't help. As posters said, take it off at night. My dermatologist also prescribed me a cream, but I don't know if you want to use anything while pregnant unless it gets really uncomfortable.

  • It could be a nickel allergy, but I think contact dermatitis sounds like a good possibility. I second taking off your ring at night and when you wash your hands. Make sure to dry your finger thoroughly before putting the ring back on.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • I have the same issue. Get 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide, mix together and soak ring in it for 30 min. Then remove ring and scrub it well with a brush(especially the build up on the underside). Don't wear the ring again until the rash is healed. I have to do this every two week or as soon as I see the rash developing.

  • Thanks all! I will be sure to check into the ebola. ;)
  • Take it off!  I've had my ring off since the beginning of second tri.  I had gained weight before pregnancy so my ring didn't have much room for swelling so off it came as soon as I thought I might not be able to get it off if I had to.

  • Dry your hands after washing, maybe even take the ring off to dry...my jewelry store friend gave me that tip
  • Yep, I'm getting it too, and I never have before. I took it off for about a week, and it cleared up, but I've been wearing it for a few days, and it's starting again. :(

  • Desitin works great on it! Also clean your ring every few days with a jewelry brush and hot soapy water. Make sure you dry your hands, especially under the ring, really well.
