  • It's really not that big of a deal. Just drink the drink & get blood draws. :-??

  • I opted out this time because of how it made me feel last time.  As an alternative (because it is important to rule out GD), I got a glucose meter and test strips and tested my sugars 4 times a day for a week.  My OB then looked over the numbers and was ok ruling out GD based on those results. (I did it from 27-28 weeks).
This is what I plan to do next time around. The drink made me so sick and I ended up having GD. I still have the meter so I'm just going to do what I did when I had GD and check my blood 4 times a day and if it's elevated then I will go on the diet again.
  • As a type 1 diabetic I am begging all ladies to please either do the test or talk to your doctor about doing a week or two of finger pokes to test for GD.  Bottom line... get tested somehow!

Diabetes and pregnancy are not a fun combo but the ramafications both you and baby can be huge!

  • The drink is pretty foul, but it won't kill you.

The blood test is also pretty harmless.

  • I didn't think the drink was bad at all. Just tasted like flat orange soda to me and it didn't make me feel sick or anything afterwards. They may have other options available, just ask and see.

  • It wasn't that big a deal. I did one at 9w1d because of my BMI and it was a more sugary sprite drink then a blood draw. I was surprised I did one so early, but my OB explained why. I passed just fine.

  • I don't see why you wouldn't want to do the test.  It is not a big deal, just drink a sugary drink, wait an hour and get blood drawn.  It is important to find out if you have GD, it can be bad for you and the baby.
  • I won't do it this time but it's because I always have extremely low blood sugar so I have a meter and test regularly.  My doctor just wants to see the tests over the course of a month.  But frankly doing that is a pain and if I could just do one test one day I would prefer that.

  • It's not that bad and GD is an important thing to catch if you have it. The drink tastes pretty bad and it's no fun to wait the hour - but it's over pretty quick.

  • There is a meal option. Call and ask about that. Doesn't help those of us who had bypass because we can't consume all the food without vomiting. For people who just hate the gd test and don't want the drink there is a meal there is also the skittles. Don't know how many you have to eat ask your DR.
