Trouble TTC

The results and emotions

Not quite sure how I feel about today.  I'm trying so hard to keep it together and to stay positive, but I am just so upset and feeling overwhelmed right now.  I had my follow up appt to discuss my HSG and all of my blood work.  Everything came back normal. My RE let me know that I simply must have ovulation dysfunction and that we will start treatment on CD 3.  He gave me a prescription for Provera to get the flow going and then left.  At that moment I was feeling so hopeful and so happy that everything was going to be so smooth and so quick, but I should have known better because it seems like this whole process has been slow and there's always some sort of road block every step of the way.  The nurse comes in and tells me that the RE forgot to tell me that I have to get a Rubella vaccine before I can get treatment and that I have to get it during my next period.  Then, I have to wait until my next cycle to start before I can begin treatment.  I know that this is the absolute smallest thing to get upset about, but for some reason I am just an emotional wreck today.  I'm just so ready to get this all started and I'm sick of waiting.  It's hard enough trying to get all of this to work with my schedule as a teacher and it just seems like things keep getting in the way.

RANT OVER
Here's the treatment plan:
Letrozole CD3-7
Menopur Injection CD10
Monitoring with ultrasound and blood work CD11
Progesterone Suppositories
Cycle review to determine pregnancy or plan for next steps

Let me know what you all think and if any of you have gone through any of this before.  Thanks for the input and for putting up with my whining.

Re: The results and emotions

  • Sorry you're having a crappy day. I felt the same way a few months back when I started to see an RE, it seemed like something was always in my way. Now that I have some answers it's easier to deal with the stress that comes along with IF, you'll get there. Feel better and good luck with everything.

  • UGH! It may be a small thing, but that small thing is delaying something you've been already waiting so long for. I'm so sorry, and don't think for one second that you're not allowed to be upset over this. Like @DaydreamSam suggested, see if you can get the Rubella vaccine now and wait a couple days to start Provera. I don't think vaccines are cycle-day-specific, so I don't see why you can't just do that now instead of wasting a whole cycle.

You plan looks good though. Very specific.

Hugs and good luck! Be nice to yourself today.

First of all, thank you so much for understanding and for telling me it's okay to be upset about this.  Just reading that made me instantly feel so much better!  Also, thank you for the suggestion with getting the vaccine now and holding of on Provera.  I called my RE and left a message asking that exact same question.  I am really hoping that they call me back today and let me know if I can.  If they give me the green light then I am going to get the vaccine tomorrow since the clinic is open until 7:30 ....UPDATE as I was typing this the RE's nurse called me back and explained why they wanted me to wait until my period.  She said that once I get the shot I have to wait a month until I can get pregnant.  So basically, I could get the shot now and then would have to use protection until I got my period to ensure that I didn't get pregnant and then I could begin treatment.  So I can get the shot any time that I would like to as long as I don't get pregnant...now I just have to make the decision.  Do I wait another month and pray that I ovulate on my own and get pregnant?  Or do I go ahead and get the vaccine tomorrow?  UGH

  • I'm glad the nurse called back to explain that. It makes sense. My opinion (and this is only what I would do if I were in your shoes) is to get the vaccine tomorrow and start your treatment plan in a month. If you wait for Provera to start your cycle and get the vaccine after, you've wasted about 2 weeks. If you get the vaccine tomorrow, you've saved those two weeks. After the month waiting period if your cycle hasn't started on its own, call your RE for bloodwork (to make sure you haven't ovulated on your own) and Provera to trigger.

  • Thank you.  I really really really needed someone to tell me what they would do because I was feeling so lost about it.  I am going to go get the vaccine today since they're open until 7:30 and since tomorrow's blood work is fasting and I'm not going to be in the mood to get a vaccine after fasting all day.  Feeling much more calm and in control of this situation now.

You are all lifesaver's!  Seriously!  I was having a real break down until I read your posts on here.

  • It sucks to be ready to move forward and have setbacks.  It's frustrating because it delays things a whole cycle and I know with me, my cycles can be long.  Provera seems to be a good plan so you don't have to wait too long.  At least you realized you needed the vaccine now and will be protected when you're pregnant!

  • I got the vaccine and I am feeling SO much better.  I have my Provera and if things go to plan (not likely based on everything else in my IF life) my period will be absent as usual and then when the time comes I will take the Provera and induce my period just in time to start treatment on CD 3.  LOL  It's a dream, but we all have to have hope to make it through this crazy journey.

Thanks for all of your advice and support.  Out of everyone I confided in, you are the ones who actually made me feel better.  HUGS to all of you!

  • It's kind of hard to know when your period will start with provera. You are suppose to start after you finish the 10 days but I always start around day 6 or 7 out of 10. I'm sorry I know that just makes it harder to decide when to start taking it!

  • I agree with @rainbowbridge14.  Start the Provera so the last one is a day or two before the month is up. Have you ever taken Provera before? Everyone is different, but if you've taken it before, try to remember how long after it ended your period started. That will give you a good baseline to go off of. It'd be better to go a day or two past the month mark than start too early just in case the RE isn't comfortable with starting medicated cycles so close to the vaccine (in my opinion).

Mark that calendar (but try not to obsess about it)!

  • I actually have taken Provera before, but my mind is completely blank about when my period actually started.  I do remember thinking that it didn't work because I expected my period to start right away once I finished taking it and it didn't.  So I'm thinking I'll be safe to take it early like you're suggesting.
