2nd Trimester

kick count

when were you told to do a kick count?  I'm not worried about anything now....just can't remember with the other pregnancies.  I see the doctor next week and will ask then but figured someone here would know!

Re: kick count

  • I haven't asked. But I have never heard of a doctor asking for them in second tri. From all I have heard, most doctors don't ask at all.
yes, I think it's later too.  Just was wondering.  I had to do them with my daughter per doctor order because she didn't move a lot.  Actually what made me think of it was how much I'm being kicked right now! LOL

  • Much later if at all, definitely not the second trimester. It is perfectly common to not feel the first kicks until after week 24 in a first pregnancy... and much longer until you have enough distinct kicks to count them regularly.

  • I was going to ask this same question today! As I remember from my last two I believe they said if there hasn't been movement in awhile that is when you do a kick count but you wouldn't have to do it daily or anything like that. Trying to remember how many weeks I was when I started. I think it was around 20-23.
  • I think I was around 30 with my daughter.  I know at 21 weeks (what I am now) movements are irregular anyways.  Having complications and a pregnancy loss a year ago and a cerclage in now makes me on edge but I know that it's too early....the question popped in my head and thought I'd ask.  Thanks for the answers!!!
  • When I went in for my 24 week appt. my doc told me I should feel 10 movements every 2 hours at the very least and not that I necessarily had to do them but that if I felt worried that baby wasn't moving much, this is what I should look for.
  • Third trimester after 35 weeks.

  • At my 20 wk appointment i was told just to note movements (or lack of) and let her know if it stopped completely. No counting yet.
  • None of my doctors have brought it up yet and I just had my 27-week appointment on Monday. I just take mental notes to myself if she's more quiet than usual one day than to see if she's more active the next.

  • 28 weeks. My OB was a little stricter than most (even she admitted that) - she wanted me to feel 10 movements in 1 hour.

  • 22 weeks and haven't been asked to do that yet. Just noting movements at this point. Making sure I feel him at least once in the day. I believe it will be asked of me in the third tri. Good Luck!
