TTC after 35

My intro (loss mentioned)....

Hello!  My name is Melissa.  I hope it is OK for me to join.  I am 35 and my SO is 35.  We are not exactly TTC but we are not preventing.  We have five together.  I have three from my previous marriage and he has two from a previous relationship.  I have DD (14), DD (13) and DS (11) and he has a DD (15) and DS (11). We had a loss in May...a surprise pregnancy.  We both didn't think we wanted anymore but the pregnancy did ignite a desire in us.

We decided we were not going to try but not try and prevent either.  It would be a huge risk for me to carry a pregnancy.  I am a diabetic (controlled with diet), I have a blood clotting disorder, and I had a heart condition related to pregnancy with my son called PeriPartum Cardiomyopathy.  I recovered nicely from it and with new studies I would be at a lower risk but still risk. Add on top of that my age which will increase my risk.  So we are cautious and I have been research for a good perinatoligist/OB who can follow me through and deliver and a cardiologist to follow me who will take a PPCM patient.

Even though we are not fully TTC, it is exciting but yet scary deciding to have another one if willing.  I was 23 when my youngest was born and here I am 35 with teenager and a preteen.

  • Thank you everyone. I have begun researching Maternal Fetal doctors in my area.  It is a little scary taking this leap with my risks.  Anyone else preparing for the possibility of a high risk pregnancy or had one in the past. I feel in a way not responsible for this decision.  But I know many women who have consciously decided to have another after their first PPCM baby.

  • Welcome and sorry for your loss.  I had Pregnancy Induced Hypertension with my first and was classified high risk.  My blood pressure started going up with my 2nd.  After my D&C my pressure was in its usual range, so its almost assured that I will be high risk for PIH but it is not stopping us.  My OB went through what we would do if I developed it.  Good luck getting all the medical professionals necessary all lined up.
