Prefolds-What is your favorite fold to use?

Hi all, I have occasionally posted questions on this board but for those who missed my other intro I am a FTM, team green, due in 2.5 weeks (woohoo!), who will be using prefolds and covers.

I am looking for other's favorite suggestions for how to fold the prefolds.  We were planning to start with the Angel Wing fold unless people had other suggestions. Do you use different folds for boys vs girls? Days vs nights? Did you change the fold when you started solids? (I know, preemptive, but I like to be prepared!)  Basically, and prefold advice you want to pass on is appreciated!

Re: Prefolds-What is your favorite fold to use?

  • We used the jelly roll in the beginning.  It's the best to contain NB poo IMO.  When poo becomes ploppable I like to just tri-fold.  Congrats and good luck on a healthy labor and delivery.

  • I use the angel wing then roll in around the legs once snappi'd on to prevent leg gaping. So maybe a modified jelly roll?

But anyway, it works and I never have poo leaks into the covers when I do it this way.

  • I personally suck at jelly roll, but partially because I have the worlds wiggliest baby. Lately I have been having success with the Newspaper fold (I'm pretty sure that's Angel wing fold), but I always ensure that his but lands in the "pocket" made when you flare the top/back edges out. Then the poop stays in that pocket.

I found that my jelly roll fold was only a 50% success rate at keeping poop off covers because my guy loves to kick and grab his feet during diaper changes.

  • I am also jelly roll impaired. We use reverse angel wing (I think).

  • We have always used angel wing. It's not as effective at containing nb poo as jelly roll, but we are lazy and have sooo many covers that its ok I we didn't get to reuse them as often.

  • I use jelly roll, reverse angel wing, and sometimes just trifold. Jelly roll is the go to fold around here for newborn poop though.

  • I am so glad I asked, especially with the overwhelming jelly roll support here. It wasn't a fold I thought much about using. I haven't seen the reverse angel wing fold, so I will look into that. :)

this is me totally.  Jelly Roll in the beginning, lazy trifold after....which is why I LOVE tuckable covers.
