Only 2oz at a time......?

My LO is bottle fed and only will eat 2 oz at a time, sometimes will take another half an oz but rarely. He wants to eat every hour to two hours and it seems no matter how hungry he gets he will spit the bottle out after 2 oz and refuse to eat more. Does anyone else's baby eat this little of an amount at 3 months?

  • Is this something new? Are you burping well? Have you brought this up to your pediatrician? That's half as much and twice as often as he should be earing by now.

  • I brought up the issue with the pedi when he was 2 months and they didn't seem concerned with that or the fact that he use to spit up a lot. He has stopped spitting up as much but still won't take anymore milk at one feeding. We have been trying to slowly increase his amount by making more milk but even if there is more milk he will still just usually stop after 2oz.

  • My baby does this at 4 months. I just found out that he has a lip tie, which is likely the reason behind it.
  • Do you mean a tongue tie? I'm not sure what a lip tie is but will google it.
  • So this isn't something new?
My LO just started this and it's really annoying. He is breastfed and formula fed. He is wasting bottles and will barely take the breast, but u think it is a teething thing. I will ask the dr at my appt today.
Typically he drinks 6oz at each feeding.
  • By "that's not normal" I mean a non complicated by lip/tongue tie, reflux, alergies, senstivities, etc. I'm suggesting you discuss it further with your pediatrician because this sounds like it could become exhausting for you, and by this age, babies do eat larger meals, and less frequently. Are your LOs gaining well?

My April 28th (sorry, not doing the math on weeks right now) baby nurses 4 times through the day, typically around 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm, and a bedtime bottle of about 8 oz around 9 or 10pm. I couldn't say how much she's eating when she nurses through the day, but when I pump in place of the bedtime bottle I get 5-6 oz.

  • So I talked to the dr about it today and she agreed that it's the start if teething and that's why he isn't funishing bottles like normal.
He us also 17.4 lbs at 3 mths so I think he's doing just fine. Lol
