Baby Names

Indian boy names

DH is Indian, and we are looking for an Indian boy name that is at least two syllables; is fairly clear to say phonetically; and not extremely common (ex. Nikhil)

One we are considering is  Ijay  (prounced eee-jay, (can anyone confirm that is the correct pronunciation?) ....I know some may see it as Eye-jay, but I figure once they are told the first time its easy to remember).

Was also looking at Kavi,  because I like how 'Kah-vee', sounds,  but I believe the correct pronunciation is Kuh-vee?

Thoughts?

Other suggestions welcome,  names that have been vetoed because they are already in the family, etc  (Anil, Dev/Deven, Jaidev, Kieran, Vikram)

  • I had a friend named Gurtaj. We all called him Taj for short and it really fit him. I also knew a guy names Ashkar but he usually went by his middle name, Patrick.

  • I'd google Indian names!

  • I like Ijay! My DH is also Indian and it was a fight to find an Indian name he liked (he has 2 other kids and neither have Indian names). But in the end we agreed that Naveen was the best name for our DS.  I thought it was easy enough for my family to pronounce as we are Spanish speaking but apparently not... we get a good laugh listening to my older family members trying to pronounce DS' name.

  • My Sils husband is Indian and they have a little boy named Jaspin. They decided to not go with the full name Jaspinder and Jaspin was a great compromise. My BIL has 3 brothers and I really like their names too. Shashin (told to pronouce like Sha-sheen), Sheylan, and Deven (short for Devenesh).
