Anyone out there have a short cervix?

Hello! I am 29weeks and 3 days and just found out my cervix is measuring at 1.4. Any other mamas out there have this issue? I am in hospital being monitored and it seems that the bed rest is helping control my "active uterus". Would love to hear from others in the same or similar situation! Even words of encouragement of getting through the remainder of the pregnancy while on bed rest.

Thanks you!!!
Jen

  • A few women on the board have/are dealing with this. Try doing a search and you'll probably find them. Good luck!
  • I have an incompetent cervix. However, bY th grace of God its behaved with this pregnancy. I wound up at L&D on Wed with contractions 5 mins apart and my cervix was fine, Dr said its a miracle. With my last pg, I was on bed rest from 9w to 36w battling contractions and a short cervix. I don't remember exact measurements now, since that was 8 yrs ago, but at 24 weeks I went into Hosp on bed rest for two weeks at 1 something cm. It ended up helping tremendously, when I left it measured at over 2. So keep positive, you CAN gain cervix. Thinking about, and praying for you.

  • I don't have the same experience but I was just put on bed rest at home for a 1cm dilated cervix. I am 31 weeks tomorrow. I wish you the best and know how much anxiety and restlessness bed rest brings.

I don't have quite the same experience, but am also on bed rest after finding out I am 1cm dilated and 70% effaced, with a positive ffn. I have gotten the steroid shots and am following up with my OB on Monday. You are not alone. Though I do commend you making it 5 weeks, it's only been 3 days for me.

    ETA- I am 30 weeks.

  • I was diagnosed with IC last year during my first pregnancy. My dr caught the shortening of my cervix at my 24 week appt last August. It was measuring 1.8 cm and was funneling to the point my bag was bulging. (And of course the cutoff for an emergency cerclage is 24 weeks-we were 5 days too late) We immediately were sent to our local hospital to be monitored and given the 2 doses of steroids. After 2 days of hospital bedrest, my cervix continued to shorten and the decision was made to transfer me to a hospital that had a level III NICU since it was obvious a "term" pregnancy wasn't likely.
Three weeks of hospital bedrest, magnesium twice (worst medicine in the WORLD), cervical ultrasounds every three days got us to 27w2d. Our LO decided to make her appearance and there was no stopping the labor that time. She spent 89 days in the NICU and SCN and has thrived ever since!!
We got pregnant (surprise) and immediately started seeing our perinatologist. He agreed that a cerclage was the best course of treatment along with 17p weekly injections. I had my "preventative" cerclage placed at 11 weeks and started 17p injections at 16 weeks. I managed to stay off bedrest until 26 weeks, but, my dr noticed minimal funneling and shortening and decided not to risk it. I'm 31 weeks now, no funneling, stable cervix length at 2.6, and am taking Procardia to calm my irritable uterus.
I'm SOO sorry to hear/see that any other mama has to deal with these issues. Thinking of you and your baking baby!

My shortening cervix was first found at 16 weeks... They watched It via weekly ultrasounds and also placed me on vaginally progesterone suppositories... during which it fluctuated between 3.5 and 2.8... Then suddenly at 21 weeks it was 1.2 & I was taken out of work (for good) and placed on home bed rest which helped RE-lengthen it to 2.9. At 23w1d cervix was 2.3 so doc decided on a cerclage while the option was still available. Once I had that done the next day I was also placed on weekly progesterone injections & along with modified bed rest I'm now 32 weeks today (ever since the cerclage the cervix has been above a 3)! Hope your doctors are giving you some extra monitoring which will hopefuly mean some extra weeks for baby to bake. Good luck!
