We just found out we are 7 weeks pregnant and since our first visit we have received two inconclusive positive HIV results. We have a 4 year old who we went through all the same bloodwork , everything came back normal. The Dr. is reluctant to elaborate on too much, other than the test is inconclusive( better than positive), and is going to refer me to a specialist monday. Has anyone ever experienced or heard of this personally? I have been doing research and I do see pregnancy can cause indeterminate positive, but still not reassuring. I'm so scared!!!

  • "Normal" people can get HIV too. What does that even mean?

  • You don't necessarily have to engage in any risky behaviors to contract HIV. It can happen various ways. If you've had previous partners & unprotected sex (or those others had unprotected intercourse etc) then it can take up to 10 years to become apparent on tests.

Get retested & see the specialist. Your partner also needs to be retested. If you are HIV positive it doesn't make you a bad person or anything. Shit happens.

I hope you are in the clear & it's just an off result.

  • Do you have a copy of the test result? Do you know why they are saying it is indeterminate (is it based on the level or reactivity)?
