Traits you hope to pass on?

As my husband and I try to visualize our boys we talk about what traits we want to pass on to them. Of course we could get little or none of our wish list. How about you, any traits you would love to see pass on?

Sarcastically:  From husband: flat feet and bad vision. From me: bad back and a tendency to lose things. :^o

Seriously: our drive.  A blend of our focus (husband gets intensely focused and I can get a little scattered at times).  I think one brown eyed boy and one blued eyed boy would be super cute.

Edit: Clarification

Re: Traits you hope to pass on?

  • I'm confused, are you talking about traits you hope get passed on to your children, or traits you hope they don't get?

  • Sorry sarcasm. We talk about the traits we want the boys to have sometimes serious sometimes not. Those are the not serious traits.
  • I'm confused, too. Do you mean traits you hope they don't get? I hope you wouldn't wish bad vision and a bad back onto your children.

  • I hope my kid doesn't get my bad vision, braty-ess or underbite. Or H's allergies.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Good traits: my eyes
    His hair colour
Bad traits: both of is have massive environmental allergies and are lactose intolerant if baby could avoid that .... That'd be great
  • I want this LO to get:

DH: charm, dark hair, hazel eyes, general sense of 'idgaf'
    My: thick hair, height

I do not want to pass on :

    DH: Broad shoulders, man hands
    My: bad ankle, clumsiness
    image
  • I'd like to pass on...
    MH: extremely kind, thoughtful
Me: love of reading, my brain

What I hope she doesn't get..
    MH: overly sensitive, bad back
Me: Bad inherited illnesses, like heart disease, breast csncer, etc.

  • We'd like to pass on DH's long/thick/blond hair, unique eye shape, musical ability, intelligence, and calm demeanor, and my green eyes, math skills, love of nature, and sense of humor.

We hope she doesn't get DH's rosacea, kitty allergy, or indecisiveness, or my huge feet, huge boobs, seasonal allergies, bad teeth, or anxiety.

I forgot about my big feet too! I hope she gets her Grandma's normal feet. I wear a 10W and I hate.it.

  • Ooooooo this looks like fun.

Here's what I hope she gets from us:

DH: his incredible music ability, his creativity, his hair color (not to be too vain, but he has gorgeous blonde hair, and mine looks like a brown mouse)

Me: sense of wonder but levelheaded, my own separate creativity, love and appreciation of the arts, bookworm

Hoping to avoid the horror stories from my childhood my parents have told me about for 33 years. Colic, bratty, etc. Also hoping to avoid his childhood stories of mischief. And our tempers. Let's just lose that family trait right now. ;)
  • I hope this LO gets DH's brain, work ethic, and beautiful blue eyes, but my body type/shape. DH has very broad shoulders and randomly short legs and I think our daughter would probably rather dodge those traits.

  • Our 3 boys are very much a mix of the 2 of us, but DS2 looks more like me, my curly blond hair and facial structure, while DS3 looks more like him, mostly in the eyes, but its such a strong resemblance I can't get past it to see any of me.
I sincerely hope this baby DD1, takes after me. My DH is 275lbs and the spitting image of his mother. She seriously looks like a linebacker. If this poor girl takes after DH, I would just hate that for her. Lol I'm fairly petite and I have very curly hair, which seems to be a crowd pleaser for DS2. I think she would be hapier being petite than a llinebacker...

  • DH: The pride in what he does- being an extremely hard worker in all areas of his life.  And if we get a boy, a mini George Clooney look-alike would be nice ;)  My H is often told he looks like him. Whether boy or girl, I would love for them to have his.our athletic gene. I would love for him/her to have his never ending amount of patience.

Me: I'd love to pass on my sunny disposition!  I'm a super happy, cheerful and upbeat person.

I hope we don't pass on allergies.  We both have extremely bad allergies (to pollen and mold).

  • We've talked about this a little.

From DH, we hope LO gets his dimples and his body type.  I'm also really, really hoping LO gets his sunny, good-natured disposition and patience.  His work ethic.

From me, we would love if LO had my red, curly hair, but the red is likely not in the cards due to DH's genetics.

LO will have blue eyes or I'm in trouble. ;-)  We're hoping LO can avoid my temper, seasonal allergies, DH's skin and teeth, and DH's childhood naughtiness.
  • DH: his red curly hair(mine is an ugly brown), hope the baby is as laid back as my DH, sense of humor, his brains, his height, and hopefully baby loves video games as much as DH

Me: I hope the baby gets my green eyes, my nose, my love of reading, my good health

Hope baby doesn't have either of our stubbornness, our bad eye sight, my DH's IBS, if it's a girl I hope she doesn't get my big boobs

  • DH: olive skin, athletic ability, curiosity about the way things work, organization, lack of allergies

Me: hazel eyes, thick hair, height, patience, sense of humor, empathy, work ethic

    Both: sense of humor, intelligence

I hope the baby doesn't get our terrible eyesight or stubbornness.

  • I hope this LO gets:
    - my posture
    - my common sense
    - my eyes
    - my athleticism
    - DH's bone structure (square jaw, high cheek bones)
    - DH's build (tall, thin, muscular)
    - DH's math skills (I have none)
    - DH's work ethic
    - DH's complexion (he tans)
    - both of our drive to succeed (in school, sports, life)
    - my attention to detail
    - our financial planning skills

I hope this LO doesn't get

    - DH's temper
    - DH's posture (always slouched)
    - my bad lower back
    - my complexion (very fair)
    - my lack of creativity
    - my in-laws bad smoking/drinking habits (glad we live two hours from them)
  • Physically, as long as the baby has my nose, I'm good.  DH's nose would earn our daughter a nose job at 15 :)  Personality wise, whatever magical combo we gave to our first daughter, maybe minus the attitude.  But seriously, she wouldn't be who she is without the attitude so who knows.  She's friendly, outgoing, very social, giving, smart as heck, and just an awesome person.  She's a much better person than I am!

  • I want this baby to be all me!! LOL! Well, except my height. I'm 4'11.5 so I wouldn't mind my kid being a bit taller..

  • Wow, I just read all the comments and I think I'm the only one who only stated physical characteristics.  I seem so vain...  BUT, all 3 of my boys have such a different personality, I am just excited to see where this one falls into the mix.  She will have her own personality and it will be fun to see it as it comes out.

  • This is fun. I consulted DH in compiling this list.
DH: Eyelashes, eyes, thick hair, sense of humour, kindness, imagination.
Me: Hair, dimples, positive attitude, curiosity, love of food.
    Both: intelligence, health

    Would rather not:
Me: Seasonal allergies, struggle with weight, large feet.
  • Real traits:
DH's looooong eyelashes (they're seriously gorgeous and I'm not just saying that because he's my husband- he gets comments all the time) and his height

My athletic ability and singing voice.

    No thank you traits:
My height (shrimpy shrimp shrimp) and his asthma/allergies. Not even sure if there's a genetic predisposition for that, but I feel bad for DH when he's super sneezy.

I don't think about this much. Across the board,I try to raise them to be thoughtful, introspective, capable, generous, and have high self esteem.

As individuals: my daughter is very outgoing, sociable, a natural leader, and independent. My son is very focused, attentive, sensitive to others, and determined.

  • From me: Critical thinking, viewing situations from multiple perspectives
    From DH: Integrity, discipline
  • We're going for..

DHs Asian hair, almond shaped eyes, athleticism, temperament n smarts (hes so smart)

My blue eyes, smile, nose, love of nature n organizational skills

We hope he doesn't have my temper or DHs allergies or his cross eyes, DH was born cross eyed n had to have surgery to fix it, I mean if he has it we will fix it just would b a bummer.. n ready we both had bad teeth, I had a regular trex mouth till braces took 5 years to fix n DHs teeth still aren't great but hourly he has more of his teeth so less time with braces.. but I'm sure he will end up with em lol poor kid..
  • I haven't given this much thought at all. But I want it to be kindhearted, self-confident, and maybe not a complete klutz like me ;-)

My daughter is fairly social, she loves the outdoors, she has sensitive feelings paired with a ferocious attitude, and her laugh is extremely contagious.
  • Would love to have this one have my curly hair, my other two have rather straight hair like DH. I will love her just the same either way! I leave the rest up to the fates! :)
  • From me: thick hair, blue eyes, height from my side (my brothers are tall)reading skills, and love of football and baseball
DH: math skills, sense of humor, kindness, and love of music

  • My husband and I frequently mention the things we hope our twin boys might inherit from each of us. Just last night I was saying that I hope at least one of them is left-handed (both my husband and I are lefties.) He jokingly asked, "What will you do if you give birth to two DIRTY RIGHT-HANDERS?"

I also would LOVE for them to inherit his adventuresome eating style. When he was 3-years-old and his mom would let him pick out any one thing he wanted from the store, he was always grabbing things like sardines, pickled quail eggs or chicken feet. Most kids would go for a Snicker's bar.

I also hope they get his work ethic, love of music and easy laugh.

From me I hope they get a love of reading, emotional sensitivity, and compassion.

I hope they avoid my clumsiness and poor sense of direction, as well as his impatience and horrible eyesight.

  • I would like our daughter to inherit my crazy long eyelashes (I get asked if they are fake quite often), intelligence (both of us), and sports ability (DH).

I am really hoping she doesn't get my celiac. Unfortunately, it is genetic and the odds are not in her favor.

  • Physically, I hope he has DH's green eyes (DH wants him to have my blue eyes. So win-win). I want him to have DH's height and long eyelashes and big lips. I want him to have my thick wavy hair.

For personality, I hope he's got a natural curiosity like both of us, a love of board games and the outdoors, affectionate (we love cuddles in our home!) and a great affinity to a wide range of foods (neither of us are picky eaters and that would be hard for us to adapt to).

I hope he's more coordinated than either of us, and less of a social misfit in school like both DH and I were.
