Let's talk about our nipples

So mine are getting super dark, crinkly, spotted, and seem to be secreting something. They are also really, really sensitive, I have no idea how I'm going to tolerate an infant gnawing on them. Anyway, they look like they might need some moisturizer. Is there anything I can use that might help moisturize them, and prep for nursing?

Re: Let's talk about our nipples

  • My doctor gave me lanolin to start using on my nipples when they started to get itchy/uncomfortable.  They are not at all dry now, but still sometimes itch on the insides...where you cant scratch, lol

  • Any of the nipple cream stuff sold in the breast feeding section will help keep them moisturized.
  • I'm afraid if I ever try to nurse laying down at night I will accidentally smother her.

  • My boobs are DD pre pregnancy and prob DDD or higher during. I pretty much look like I've had a massive boob job when my milk comes in. It sucks(pun intended lol).
Will say the nips definitely feel more sensitive this time around, don't remember that with my daughter.

  • Mine have officially grown to OMFG too big range.  Also, i did weigh them the other night... at least 2 of the pounds ive gained are NOT baby.

Also im having super bra trouble.  Having them held up firmly makes them hurt.  Having a loose bra to keep them from flopping around, makes them rest on my belly where the baby kicks them.  Lose lose situation.

  • Mine are swollen, as expected. My boobs have always been super-sensitive but now they're sore and occasionally ooze a little colostrum. I added nipple guards/shield things to my baby registry in prep for that possible horrible baby gnawing problem.
  • Here's the nipple shield for nursing I referenced if it ever comes to that for you. This is my first baby so I've no experience to vouch for it but the reviews are pretty promising.

Yikes those are big boobs! I was a 36b before I got pregnant with Zig and was a 42E when nursing. After I lost the baby weight I was a 36F. I had reconstructive surgery on my chest a yr and a half ago and am happily back to a 36B. So @NatureLovers‌ I feel your pain, once again!

Pregnancy boobs were horrible. The dark itchy massive nipples, the colostrum faucets. Blargh. No. I certainly don't miss them.

Lanolin helps. Lots! And regular massage can help pop out inverted nipples long before baby comes to help minimize nursing woes.

I would love to get my boobs done after this baby. I have a high risk of breast cancer due to hereditary factors, so reducing my breast tissue wouldn't be a bad thing. I'm negative for the BRCA mutations so any surgery isn't covered by insurance.

  • My nipples have darkened but my boobs are still small. Slowly growing though now maybe? I think I've mostly stopped producing milk for now but still nursing about once a day ish but not for very long basically comfort I think. I usually make him unlatch after a few minutes.
I've noticed colostrum a few times. Sucks I can't squeeze milk at will any more because it comes in so handy! Cleaning cuts and scrapes on the go, pink eye, etc.

  • My nipples are definitely itchy and swollen (one more so than the other) but it's not so bad for me. I'm an A cup, now chilling in the B's. For me, it's fun to have cleavage for the first time ever!
  • I was a 34 DDD before pregnancy and I bought a 38 G sports bra yesterday. I was measuring a 38 F a few weeks ago but I went bigger so I had some room to grow. The 38 G actually fits well. My areolas are HUGE. They're like dinner plates.

    dinner plates! pics!!!
  • honestly I'd take national geographic over playboy magazine any day!
  • Went from a 36B to I believe a DD after our first. Lost weight, went down to a sad, sad national geographic looking saggy A, then back up to a full C/D currently with mismatched nipples. I pretty much HATE my boobs and will likely never like them again unless I get plastic surgery, which I don't really want to do. Ugh.
  • My oldest is 21, I had slight leaking and what felt like let down for ten years!! Then I was pregnant with my daughter, then another son immediately following. The ten years (again) between then and now (6m preg with baby #4) I have still leaked and had the let down feeling if babies cry, etc.
  • I love waking up and reading a good nipple thread. Ever since I got up my right nipple itches so bad! Also H thinks it's hilarious to make me leak...

  • Regarding my boobs-- they have grown to at least a DD (from a large B/small C). I wear sports bras almost exclusively to keep them reigned in.

I definitely feel them tingle randomly and get shooting pains to one nipple (sometimes left, sometimes right), but I haven't been able to express colostrum yet. I didn't do that until 7-8 months the last time. My nipples are gigantic and the visual of dinner plate nipples made me LOL (really) so thanks for that @NatureLovers‌!

I second Lanolin (though some people don't like it because of its source [sheep wool]). I went through so much of that stuff H suggested we just purchase an entire factory!

    Jan 15  NOV siggy challenge:

  • I was an A/B before and am now a C. C feels big to me and I miss my cute little boobs already. It definitely seems like the "grass is always greener".

I find it irritating when each boob is doing its own thing. Particularly when one nipple is hard and the other is not. I feel like boobclops.
  • I was a 34DD before getting pregnant. I don't know what size I am now, I just know they're about twice as big because I can't fit any of my bras (still haven't gone bra shopping).

My nipples are dark (insert sad face). They used to be red/brown. My son even said to me "those are getting black", smh. My nipples are also very tender right now, even my areolas are sore.
  • I don't think I need to tell anyone how I feel about my boobs.

  • I'm off to buy some new bras today. I'm a 36DDD prepregnancy, and the last bra I tried on comfortably at a store was a 38F (2 months ago.) I'm wondering if I should just go to Motherhood or Lane Bryant. Where have you had the best luck?
  • Mine are super dark and always hard. I wake up in the middle of the night because my nips are tingling. I'm allergic to aloe, any other suggestions? Cold packs?
I have heard coconut oil works well also.... might give it a try!
  • I'm usually 38 DDD, and have been living in a sports bra so I have no idea what size I really am right now. My poor nipples burn and ache and I would gladly divorce myself of them if possible.

They're also darkening which is always disconcerting to me.

  • Motherhood and Lane Bryant had really good selections. I went from a 36DD to a 40DDD. The bras are all really nice, supportive and has the special pocket for the breast pads. They don't even look like maternity bras!
  • Lanolin can help

i love you, my little mooncake mahal kita

  • Mine are sooo tender :( just finished nursing my son last week and they still hurt. I am starting to get nipple lint but I think it's dried colostrum. I have to clean it out each shower, bit nothing squirts. Boobies have only grown a little bit.

    .

    I'm immature sorry
  • Can any STMs tell me if my nipples are permanently this large and dark? Will they go back to the cute little pink ones after I'm done breast feeding? I knew to expect larger boobs (and possibly a little saggy post baby) but this nipple thing is a total let down. I'm a total boob person, my favorite part of my body, and this is so depressing...

Mine went back down to normal color/shape/size so there is hope!
I'm so glad you said this! I was worried my boobs would stay this ugly forever. Do you remember how long it took after you stopped breast feeding for them to go back to normal?

  • This makes me sad, pregnant/nursing noobs are not ugly. I am sorry people feel this way about some of their changes!
  • Haven't read all the responses so sorry if this is a repeat, OP, coconut oil would be great for your nipples.

  • Coconut oil. :)

Also, just a tip to get your nipples ready for feeding. I usually do it 4 to 6 weeks before baby comes is to scrub your nipples every time your in the shower with a loofah or something. It kind of toughens them up. I noticed it worked and the pain was tolerable once baby got here.

  • I liked my nursing boobies. I can't wait to get them back! I felt very voluptuous and sexy with bigger knockers, and loved that they could nourish my baby.
Also DH loved my nursing boobies...

Pregnancy boobies are tender though so I'm excited for milk production. I want the tender nips to go away
  • My nips are extremely EXTREMELY itchy. I put coconut oil on them and it's like BOOM instant relief.

Oweeee! Mine are so tender right now and have been cracking and peeling since like 10 weeks. Also, OP, I've been using Honest Company's nipple balm and I really like it. It seems to help a lot.
I know, my nipples are really sore right now too, And it's not the best feeling in the world to scrub them, but it feels better then baby latching on them. It doesn't take all the pain away, but it certainly helped toughen them up.

  • I'm also large chested, a 34DD pre-preg. My areolas were large enough for me before I was pregnant but in the last week they got bigger and darker and I hate them :(( DH asked me yesterday why I was looking at my boobs so much and I told him about my insecurity. He said they're still awesome though lol. I reeeeally hope they don't stay this way!
