NTTCR: My dad is stressing me out!

So my dad reveals to me that someone came to him with an easy way to earn extra $. It's a pyramid scam. He's got mild dementia and he's very gullible. He gave this person $2100 and they have taken an additional $400 from his account. He didn't even know. I looked over his finances and found these charges. Now my bother and I are trying to dispute this to get his savings back.
Unfreakenbelievable...so I'm drinking tonight!

It sucks that there are people that prey on older folks that will fall for these scams. It makes me so angry!

How awful.  It takes a sick sort of person to prey on the elderly.  Good thing you guys caught it.  Hopefully he will get the money back.

@IFinTN‌ you are absolutely right! And we are now in the process of getting myself officially as DPOA.

So right now we are first going through his bank so they can investigate. Then we will lawyer up. I really want to go to this chic's work (a diner my dad frequents) and freak out on her. I'm holding back because if we do need a lawyer, that wouldn't be a wise thing to do.

This happened to someone I know and they ended up having to take over their parent's finances and even had to have the parent's phone calls transfer to their own phone as well because the scammers kept trying to contact the parents to get more money. They lost a LOT but finally have it under control.

Have you contacted the police? Depending on where you and your dad are, that amount of money could be considered misdemeanor or even felony criminal fraud. Also, if this is something he/she has done before, you might get lucky and they could be on probation, meaning it is easier to press charges.

Just an idea, but DPOA is a DEFINATE must! As is an attorney!!! Actually an attorney can help you get DPOA so don't wait!

I've been pretty absent lately, due to being benched, sorry about that. That's all changing tomorrow!

But I have good news to share, my brother and I were able to retrieve ALL of my dad's money from this scam company, Team National. I guess they got pretty nervous about threats of lawyers sniffing around this case. We are looking into getting it on the attorney generals watch list.
Anyway, finally good news, things are getting better around here!

So glad you found out about it before it got worse and was able to get his money back.  People sicken me. I can't stand a thief and those who take advantage of the elderly are the worst.
