High BP before first pregnancy and scared

I have always had high blood pressure. I'm 24 years old and completely healthy and in normal shape. All test have come to an unknown cause with no family history. Basically I'm a house episode according to my doctor. I'm on BP meds 3x a day BP is controlled at avg. 140/80. My original Ob doctor was very negative about my BP with pregnancy suggested termination... ended up in hospital because of spiked pressure at 200/160 very high but my normal with out meds and no BP symptoms.... while in the hospital considering what my Ob said scared out of my mind! I met a mid wife who was on rotation at my hospital from mom doc and he really put me at ease said we can do this let's buckle down find meds that work and we did I'm now at 22 weeks still very nervous BP is high but where they want it... but they say they want to get me to 28 weeks and possibly see if any pre-e symptoms show up but all the 24 hour urine have improved since original hospital one BP is at a steady average just want to know if any is in the same boat any my words of encouragement how far did you make it before they induced you... scared first time mom thank you in advance!!!

Not exactly in the same boat but I am having trouble with my bp too. I'm 27, overweight but had lost 30 pounds prior to this pregnancy. Anyway, I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and my dr. is already saying his goal is 28 weeks and go from there. Hang in there momma!

Hey there. I am having problems with my BP too. I am 18w and have not been put on any BP medication yet. I was told I was in the "gray area" right now. I am at a higher risk for preeclampsia because I am expecting twins. I start with a high risk doctor this week so hopefully I will feel better after seeing him. I did my baseline 24 hour urine catch a couple weeks ago and everything came back ok. I ended up switching doctors early on because my first doctor also scared me to death b/c of my BP. Hang in there and remain positive. It's a great sign that your 24 hour urine tests are coming back showing improvement.

I did 2 full term pregnancies on labetalol. I never developed Pre-e (got close, but diet change and exercise kept it at bay). I was high risk, saw a Peri/MFM clinic for growth ultrasounds and BPPs in 3rd tri. Both times I was induced at 39w and had non-complicated vaginal deliveries. My kids were healthy and my BP regulated back to my normal after delivery.

High BP is serious stuff, but doesn't have to be too scary and doesn't always end in small preemies.

I understand why they have to be up front about the risks. I just think they should be more positive as well. I switched Dr's also from traditional to my mid wife, also seeing a perinatal specialist as well. Baby is perfect growing on target but they still say the same about the pre-e and 28 weeks...

I have never heard the 28 week estimation that you ladies are talking about.

I had never heard it until my last appointment either. Honestly, I find it to cause me more anxiety than the dr just saying we will watch everything close and get as far as we can.

Have they put you on new BP meds? I've had HB since 27, I'm currently 33 and have been on Methyldopa the entire pregnancy. I'm currently 29 weeks along. Hopefully they can get it under control and I can't believe your dr said that to you instead of exploring the medication options. Try and relax as hard as that is because that will help bring the BP down as well. Mine goes up when I'm nervous or anxious. Good Luck and keep us posted!

I'm on labatalol 3x a day yeah they said they want me to stay pregnant as long as possible but at least 28 weeks is the goal

I had an almost identical experience as CivilMommy, except my first son came on his own at 39 weeks.  I was induced at 39 weeks with my younger son, not because my BP was alarmingly high, but to avoid the risk of BP spiking or a placenta issue happening in that last week.
