Looking for a long weekend w mh. I would love something like canyon ranch as a far as cuisine and activities but don't want the 2 hr drive once we get there....are there any resorts like that closer to Phoenix? Looking at the Phoenician which looks gorgeous but doesn't seem to have a lot of on site activities and whatnot...also looked at biltmore, Hyatt, westin , fairmont, fire sky... Hard to know?.?? Would love any recs or personal experiences! We may not need a lot on site as mh has never been to Sedona and I think it would be a fun day trip and then just hanging locally, but still want a spa resort experience.

  • Have you looked at the JW Marriott? I've been to the one in San Antonio and it was amazing.  I know there is also one in Phoenix.

  • I stayed at the Biltmore and it was great. The pools are amazing! Some of the older rooms are not as nice, but they have little casitas that are great. I'm a huge Frank Lloyd Wright nerd too, so that was a huge plus for me. Food was really good there too.

  • I LOVE the Fairmont Scottsdale.  I've stayed there on two separate occasions (once for 3 days and once for 8 days).  The spa is phenomenal (though admittedly very expensive even for a resort) and I had several treatments there. I could seriously live at the Fairmont Scottsdale if that was an option.  They have several amazing restaurants right on the location with great food and atmosphere.  The service everywhere at the resort is amazing.  The main pool is gorgeous.  I never left the resort as I didn't feel a need to on either time.  I'm sure there is a lot to do in the area.  I can't say one bad thing about this place.

Thanks all! I ended up booking the canyon suites at phoenician...a lot of the smaller resorts were totally booked and we are starwood members so getting points is always good. Those others looked so great too, there are so many awesome places in that area it is so hard to pick! I'm hoping to check out some other places for dinner & whatnot just to see the other resorts!

  • I'm an event planner and am in the process of planning a big conference at the Fairmont Scottsdale.  When deciding on options, we looked at the Fairmont, the Phoenician, the JW Marriott Desert Ridge and the Westin Kierland (or something like that).  The Fairmont won out - it is just really lovely.

  • Oh - just read replies and saw you booked at Canyon Suites.  That was going to be my other recommendation if you chose the Phoenician - to go with the Canyon Suites.  They're a bit upgraded from the sleeping rooms at the main resort.  Enjoy!!!
