Trying to Get Pregnant

Reading the First Response Ovulation 2 Lines! Help!

We have just started discussing TTC for our 2nd baby. The first time I went through Infertility so never had to track on my own but I have been getting normal periods and so want to see if I can somehow track this time. These sticks are driving me crazy. For the last 3 days I have been trying to read them, the first day there was no 2nd line at all, then yesterday it was clearly lighter but then today I got this and it's lighter but similar. I have no idea what it means. What would you all think looking at this? LH surge or no LH surge. If the line is getting stronger does that mean it might be coming or could I have missed it and you just get a 2nd line on these no matter what. I feel so dumb. TIA for answers :)
TTC since Jan '10 (Me 29, Hubby 30) Married just over 5 years from SoCal Diagnosed PCOS in May '10 and MTHFR Gene. 3 early m/c's in 2011. BFP Feb 8th '12 at 9DPO. Beta #1 (11DPO) = 28 Beta #2 (15DPO) = 140 Beta #3 (23DPO) = 2853! Due 10/22/12! Liam is here! Born 10/2/12 image

  • You need the test line to be as dark or darker than the control line. Your test is negative. Keep testing, and perhaps invest in cheaper OPKs if this isn't your cycle.

  • They say if the line is similar or darker than LH is detected but lighter or not there than not detected. I just don't know if similar refers to close to, the same color as. I have heard these aren't that easy to read so just asking...

It's negative. Go read the directions. Read the newbie blog. Do a few google searches and educate yourself. OPKs are not that difficult. I promise.

Same as or darker than the control. It's in the directions.

  • Okay thank you. I read the directions and it says similar to, not same as or darker but next time I will do more research on my own.

  • FWIW OP, I'd say your test is getting close. Some women need to test twice a day to catch a positive OPK. Considering you only get 7 (if I recall) in a package, that's why I suggest getting cheaper ones next cycle. Keep testing and good luck.

  • Anytime I see Help!  I think of "Lassie, go get help!"

OP, that test line is approximately half the darkness of the control.  Most instructions say "as dark or darker" than the control line.  Use your eyes.  If you can't figure out the lines, go with something that doesn't use lines, but then don't freak out if the blinking smileys and other crap are also confusing.

Can you screenshot the directions for us?

I'm going to have to make an OPK version of the below:

  • I hate ovulation tests. I've never gotten a positive. I think my surge must be super short because I've been able to confirm ovulation through temping.

That test looks negative to me, but if you keep testing every 12-24 hours you might see it get darker. Or not. Mine never did. Good luck!
  • @Catcherryesux‌ same here! NEVER got positives on OPKs but blood tests confirmed I had O'd. SO annoying.

  • I have tested with these when my wondfo and CBFM were reading positive, and they have been negative, thus I don't trust these. I would take the cheap wondfos over these any day!

  • OP do you also temp your basal body temperature?  That will help you confirm IF you actually ovulated and WHEN, so you can use the OPK to predict that ovulation may be approaching but a temperature shift will confirm that ovulation happened. An LH surge doesn't necessarily mean ovulation, but a clear shift in temperature (determined by 3 days of temperatures above your previous temps that month, or "coverline") will show that you did ovulate. Right, guise? Or can you have a shift without ovulating?

  • Generally yes, if you see a temp shift, you are ovulating. The temp goes up when the follicle releases the egg, becomes a corpus luteum, and starts producing progesterone.
