To answer your question, this is what I would expect at a 14 week appointment (I'm 12 weeks now, so basing this from my experience from my last pregnancy, which I remember):
You'll get weighed, pee in a cup, and then have your blood pressure taken. The doc will come in, likely make some polite chit chat, check the hb with a Doppler, and then probably feel on your abdomen for your fundus. She'll ask you if you're feeling ok and if you have any questions. If you do, ask them, if not say, "nope, we're good!", to which she'll probably say, "great, see you in 4 weeks!". Make your next appointment on your way out (don't want to forget, now do ya?). That's pretty much it. Your husband may be pooped after such a stressful day, so be sure fawn all over him and give him a little extra pampering afterward.
To all of them? Why? Moral support, or curiosity, or what? Don't get me wrong, I have no judgment at all if the dad goes to every single appt, but like I said it never would have occurred to me.
Then again we are pretty "divide and conquer" in most areas (ie I don't go with him to buy a car, I make most of the kid related decisions, etc). So I guess since I'm a nurse and the one who is actually pregnant he sees MW appts as my turf? Or maybe we are the weird ones?? Haha I am going to start polling my friends.
MH only goes to the ones with ultra sounds or if there is something particularly important happening. He would never be able to get enough time off work to go to all of them, especially in the end when they are every week! He's super supportive and excited about the pregnancy and all, it's just not something either of us view as necessary, like you said @honkytonk_kid.
Same here. Most appointments are boring and I spend a lot of time waiting. No reason for him to take off work for that.
Are you just trying to make me feel bad with all these my DH has been to all these appointments? We aren't on the best of terms and have PRIVATE PERSONAL problems. I asked about a visit and yall just talk about how he's a terrible person.
Thanks.
Yeah, no. People were just sharing their experiences. The issue everyone is trying to point out is that it's not a big deal if he actually goes or not. I'm pretty sure, from his thread alone, that most dads would be happy to go if it was feasible with work or they were asked to. But you stated yourself that he "finally agreed to go" and is "opposed to having another child." Red flags. If you don't want your PRIVATE PERSONAL problems discussed then you shouldn't provide such details on the internet. A simple "hey my husband gets to come with me to my 14 week appointment- any idea what to expect? Will I get an ultrasound?" The question is asked and no PRIVATE PERSONAL details revealed! Look at that.
Your husband has never been to an appointment with you?
It would never have occurred to me that H should go to anything but the a/s, until the bump.
OP, it depends on the practice, but after the initial dating scan/blood work/maybe PAP, most appointments are going to be vitals, pee in a cup (maybe), check your belly, discuss any questions.
I agree. Especially 2nd time around! My DH went to the NT scan b/c of the ultrasound and will go to the A/S but other than that I don't expect him to go to any others unless problems arise.
