Sleeping with blankets?

Hi! Right now my little lady is sleeping in her crib with out any blankets or anything besides a fitted sheet and wearing cotton footie pjs. This has worked well all summer. We are starting to have some cooler nights and the house has been cooler in the morning (today it was 71 when I woke up) so I was wondering when or if I should put her down with one of her blankets. I have bought some fleece Jammies and have considered putting a onesie underneath for extra warmth as winter comes. Mind you I live in southern CA so it's not like it gets that cold. She isn't fond of any sleep sacks. She is 7 mos today, rolls well, wants to crawl, and has been a crazy wiggle worm lately. What are your thoughts?? I am also sending a non- urgent message to our pedi. Thanks!

Re: Sleeping with blankets?

  • Nope definitely not safe for blankets yet. I'd wait til at least a year old. Actually, I may never let Jenna have one. I'm only half serious.

  • i put a blankie in with C when he sleeps, but its more of a security blanket than it is for warmth. he kicks it off of himself within minutes, or he pulls up it and snuggles with it. I just put him in a onsie, little sweat pants, and put socks on him. the AC in our house is weird so its either hot or cold. theres no in-between. so the footed jammies don't really work for us, poor guy sweats like crazy and then it cools down and i worried all that sweat makes him colder. it seems to be working for us. he's been sleeping much better. i do know they say not to give the child a blanket bc they can suffocate but to each their own. its been okay for us. but then again charly kicks it off so i don't have to worry about him pulling it over his head.

but i agree with @katybriggs and try it during a nap and see how it goes. or try a wearable blanket. it might work

  • We tried blankets when Em was tiny, they always end up bunched under her feet so I've given up. Her room gets very cold in winter though, and even with the heating on we fight to keep it above 60 as it has a massive window and two outside walls.
I've bought sleep sacks for this year, and will make sure the integral scratch mits on her sleep suits are used in place of gloves to keep her hands warm.
  • Thank you all for the suggestions. I think she is still a little young and too all over the place to sleep with a blanket. I will probably do warmer pjs as it gets cooler. Thanks again I really appreciate it.
