Has anyone seen this information re: betas? Nervous first timer

I'm on my mobile and can't get to the PAIF page. (so frustrating) I'm wondering if someone might know something about this information I stumbled across today:

"Morse and coworkers (2012) at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine recommend that the beta hCG level for a successful intrauterine pregnancy should be expected to increase by at least 35% in two days. A slower rate of increase suggests a possible miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. For women who are having a miscarriage the beta hCG should be expected to fall 36 - 47% over two days. A fall that is slower than this is suggestive of an ectopic pregnancy.

About 21% of ectopic pregnancies (pregnancies implanted outside of the uterus) have a rise in hCG similar to an intrauterine pregnancy and 8% of ectopic pregnancies have a fall in hCG similar to a miscarriage.

Serial hCG values should not be used alone to determine whether or not a pregnancy is likely to be a successful intrauterine pregnancy, a miscarriage, or an ectopic pregnancy. Serial hCG values should be used in combination with clinical judgment, evaluation of symptoms and repeat ultrasound (as needed)."


I am super nervous because my third beta on Wednesday was definitely not at 35% and I want to try to prepare myself for my US next week. Any ideas?

Your betas look great to me.  Once they get over 1,000 the percentages aren't accurate anymore.  GL at your u/s.
Please email community@thebump.com and let them know that you can't access PAIF from mobile.

I would honestly stop researching and just wait until your next beta. Your going to drive yourself nuts and sometimes the numbers aren't always right. People can have super high betas a long time and have a miscarriage. Hang in there. I've also known people to have a numbers below 100 and had a healthy pregnancy.

Thank you! I was feeling so good until I randomly saw that article- I wasn't even looking for beta information and my heart just dropped.

Like @TJ1979 said, over 1,000, those percentages aren't accurate.  Your numbers look great so far!!  Good luck on Tuesday!

The more you read about what "could" go wrong the more you're gonna drive yourself crazy. I know it's had but wait until your u/s and feel confident that all is fine with that little bean growing! Hang in there!

Your betas look great! At the beginning of your pregnancy when your numbers are lower the doubling time should be faster. As your numbers get higher and higher into the thousands, doubling time slows down. Because your third beta was a week or more after your second, your numbers started to get pretty high so it's natural for the doubling time to slow down a bit. Congratulations on your BFP and H&H 9 months!

Thanks ladies.  Fingers crossed.  

I really didn't think there was anything worse than infertility, but if this doesn't go well, I am going to be devastated.  Praying for Tuesday's ultrasound.

Your beta looks fine to me too. I had super low betas to start with with 2 of my pregnancies ( the 2 i got betas for) and i have a 1 year old and am 22 weeks. So dont elt the reserch scare you!
