Going back a step... Prefolds

I am mostly an OBGE CD'er but thinking of destashing a few and investing in some prefolds and covers for my 15 month old. If I was to tri-fold a prefold in a cover, do I need to get a certain size prefold or will any do? My LO is around 24lbs at the moment. Also recommend any brands, types etc please.

OT: sadly I sold all my covers and prefolds late last year and starting to regret it. I love my AIO's but know with winter coming up, drying them gets slouch more difficult.

  • I personally love the selection of prefolds at Nicki's.
if you plan on mostly tri-folding I would look at their Imagine "smart fit". They are made a little shorter for easier tri folding.
Technically you could get a smaller size prefold if you aren't pinning or snappi-ing, but I would go with the size that fits him because of the absorbency. He would be a large in these.

  • Yeah, absorbency would vary. I found that if I have Logan's covers on the smallest rise, I could fit a medium GMD in it if I folded it the opposite way. So instead of the thick part running the whole length if the diaper, it's only in the middle, and this makes it so I don't have to fold a few inches down in the front.

  • DS is 14 months and is in a wide baby gmd snappi'd. But he's small, at 21 lbs. so there's that.

Have you thought about flats? They dry even faster and you can pad fold them if you want a to just lay it in a cover. And that way you can adjust the size you need as he grows.

I'm a OBGE lover to flat convert. I still love the OBGEs. But wow, you can get a great fit with flats! And cheap!

  • I suggest FLATS and learning to pad fold them just like a prefold :). That way you don't have to worry about them being too big/too small

So far I have had no problems with FSTs for now. :-/. But I like cotton. Bamboo (fitteds and inserts) take forever to dry
