Who was/is our biggest/smallest baby?

So there is the question.

Who was our biggest at birth?

Who is our biggest now? (Premies & fullterm)

Who was our smallest at birth? (Premies & fullterm)

Who is our smallest now?

I know my kid isn't any of those.  He's only about 18 lbs and average height.  Born at 7lbs 7 oz and 19.5 in

  • What happened to our spreadsheet?

Ooohhh!  We have a spreadsheet? Was it posted in an old thread?  I can try searching.

  • DS was 9 pounds 9 ounces and 22 inches, so he's definitely on the bigger side of the scale, but I don't know that he was the biggest. He was also 10 days before his due date. I wonder how big he would have gotten then!

Just for fun! I find it facinating how different all our babies are and how they each develop differently.  Is there a reason we can't talk about it?

  • I had a big-ish baby, but she's pretty average now. She was 8.5 lbs, 22 inches at birth. She's 17lbs now at 7 months. Doesn't someone here have a 24lb baby? Or did I hallucinate that?

Yes!  I think it was in the clothing size thread.  That is one of the things that got me wondering about our biggest and littlest babes.

  • My baby Was 6 lb 13 oz and 19.5 at birth. She was 13 lb 5 oz at 6 months. Not sure about now probably nearing 15ish pounds?

I don't know what Abby is at now but at birth she was 5lbs 14oz and 18.25 inches (short) long. I was induced 9 days early because they think she wasn't growing anymore and dropped below the 10th percentile. She is still below the 10th percent. At her 6 months appointment she was 13lbs I believe.

  • DD was 6.15 at birth, 13 at 6 months and 15 at 8 months. I anticipate she'll be in a booster seat until 8th grade.

  • 7.12 and 21 inches long -at birth
18lbs and 28 inches long - at 6 month app
  • My DS was born right at 39 weeks weighing
10 pounds 8 ounces and 21.5 inches long. He's 7 months old now and weighs 19.8 pounds. He's starting to even out now in his weight.
  • I had a big-ish baby, but she's pretty average now. She was 8.5 lbs, 22 inches at birth. She's 17lbs now at 7 months. Doesn't someone here have a 24lb baby? Or did I hallucinate that?

My guy was 9.1 at birth and he's probably close to 24 lbs now. I think last time I weighed him at home he was a little over 23 lbs. he'll be 8 months on the 8th. He loves his momma's milk and has finally taken an interest in table food these last few weeks. I don't have a clue how long he is, but he fits into 12 and 18 month sleepers and pj's.

  • DD was 5lbs 10oz and 18.5in. Last time we checked she was 19lbs 3oz and I didn't catch the height, as we were there cuz she was sick so my mind was focused on that.
  • Last time we compared sizes (@ 6 months?), @HeartOverMind‌ and I had the littlest babies (not at birth though). Dd is just over 14lbs now.
I'll be honest though, IRL it can be a touchy subject (for me at least). I don't mind as much here, since I've been open about her cf and I don't have to see anyone's reactions when they see her/hear her age...

  • @tarajeannette I have a website that I can track LO's height and weight growth and percentiles until age 2. I did it for DD and it's great to look back and compare.

  • 5 lb 12 oz, 18 3/4 inches at birth. She was born on her due date but my blood pressure was getting high the last month so the doctor thinks that's why she was on the smaller side.

    15 lb 15 oz, 26 1/4 inches at 6 month appt a month ago
  • @tarajeannette‌ my pediatrician has online access with all her stats but no growth chart. I also love numbers and would love to be able to pull up her growth chart.
  • I also find that people always have some comment on the size of babies. My DD was pretty well in the middle percentile wise at her last appointment and yet I've heard how she's so small or so big for her age. I think it's like pregnancy, everyone thinks your either huge, or barely look pregnant.

I can understand that.  I can only imagine how emotional it's been to deal with the cf and everything it brings.  I'd probably be a wreck.

It's crazy how regional things like those comments are though.  My baby only recently had a growth spurt.  Before that he was on the small side (15th percentile) for weight and everyone would ask how old he was and comment about how BIG he was for his age.

I've heard other moms talk about all this drama over NIP or people coming up to commend them for it.  I've never had one single person look at me odd or comment or anything.  The only time someone said anything to me was in an airport.  I set down at the gate in a chair and started to nurse him.  This really nice older lady just gave me an approving smile and struck up a conversation about how old is he? etc.

The thing that has been bugging me lately is everyone thinks he should be crawling by now.  Why isn't he crawling?  Is it because of the helmet?  What's wrong with him?

My pedi has an online "portal" for patients. She has a growth chart on there. I find it interesting to see it all in one place. I am, however, a nerd for data.

Does everyone have an online account with their pedi? I don't know many moms IRL, so I have no idea what is typical.

We don't have anything online but every time we go they give me a print out of his charts and it is succesive so it has all the past lines on it too.  I'm the same way.  I love data!  I think it's interesting that we had some babies that started out tiny(er) and now are some of the biggest babies on the board.  It just goes to show that all babies grow at their own pace.

My DD is right there too. She's 14 pounds now at 7.5 months. I'm okay with her being tiny because we are tiny people but when she wasn't gaining weight it was scary. People always comment on how tiny she is and say it's okay because she is a little girl. Makes me sad to think about what would be said if she was a boy this tiny.

  • Thanks @km_md‌ :)
I didn't realize you had a peanut too! It can be scary and frustrating, for sure. The CF docs are pushing for at least 50% weight for height (lung health is better with those numbers). If we don't see enough progress soon, they will be talkin gtube :/

  • @JGjocelyn That has to be so tough on you. E is doing much better with her reflux and weight gain now, but it was really awful for her for a long time, and I really struggled. I hope that she continues to do well without a gtube.

  • Thanks! Dd has reflux too! We went from zantac to prilosec to prevacid back to prilosec.. It's still pretty bad but she doesn't seem bothered by it as much :/
Glad things started improving for you two!

We started with Prilosec but she didn't keep it down so naturally it wasn't very effective lol we switched to Prevacid and it is going much better. With all of her doctors and GI specialists, PT, OT, allergist and dietician I think we are getting her in a much better place now. I'm just hoping it lasts. We still have a fair bit of spit up and she still needs her meds but at least she isn't screaming in pain anymore. Hopefully your LO will grow out of it.

Yes, you were the one I was thinking of!

I sometimes forget that he's only going to be 8 months old. His sister was similar size wise (9.3 at birth) but he's completely blown her out of the water with his growth. My first was 7.8 at birth and constantly struggling to be on the growth chart. Even at almost 6 he's maybe 35 lbs.

I knew your little one would be our tiniest newborn ( looks like my DD is in second place at 4 lbs 8 oz) he's really catching up with his size though!! My DD was 16lbs and 26 inches at her 9 month appt and she was born at 34 weeks so she didn't have as much to make up. my son is a giant though

My DS was 10 lb 1.4oz at birth and 21.5 inches long! He was born 12 days before his due date... Thank goodness!!

Edit: he is 23 lbs now amd just turned 8 months old on the 5th. He is in 12 month clothes (some 9 month still fits luckily!)
  • DS was 8lbs, 6oz and 21" long at birth.  I'm not sure exactly how much he weighs now, but at his 6 month appointment he was 24lbs, 2oz and I think almost 28" tall (100th and 72 percentiles)
