Resolve Support Groups/Therapists?

Has anyone tried one of the support groups listed on the Resolve website? What was your experience like? How does the peer led groups work?

What about the therapists? Does anyone know how the therapists get listed on the site? Can any therapist choose to get listed or is there any vetting by Resolve?

Thanks!

Re: Resolve Support Groups/Therapists?

  • Thanks, @tabbytown and @katemonster1 I appreciate the insight. I don't think any of the support groups in my area (that are not targeted to adoption or coming to peace with childfree not by choice) are professionally-led, but I do think I will try and check out the next meeting that is general IF. And I like the idea of asking my nurse/RE for a recommendation, regarding therapists, too. Although I'm still kinda holding a grudge after the urologist debacle. I'm going to check with my health insurance provider to see what kind of mental health coverage I have and start researching therapists that are covered. Why is everything IF-related so much work???

  • I have not tried support groups, but I do see a therapist that specializes in infertility and pregnancy loss.  She went through infertility treatments herself, so she understands much of the emotions surrounding infertility on a personal level.  She's been a great help for me to sort through much of the emotional side of infertility.

    PAIF/SAIF Welcome!

  • If a therapist is listed on Resolve they are probably more committed to treating IF patients than someone who just ticks the box on an insurance website. We see a woman we found through Resolve and she is awesome. She hasn't shared her personal story but knows the (multiple) IVF process very well. I saw someone else for years and when we started down the treatment path it became clear that she wasn't the right person to talk to about it.

I'm not sure about the support groups because I'm not sure there would be people there that could relate to my situation and frankly, I don't want to scare anyone! I would consider going to a group led by a professional discussing other topics but not IVF specific.

  • We go to Resolve peer-led group therapy every month. It's good to vent and hear common stories. Definitely helped DH and me reconnect. There's something about therapy that makes us feel like it's us against them to bring us closer. Weird. But, I would like to find an individual therapist to talk to. Hoping my RE's recs and my insurance can align because OOP for IVF is one thing, but there's no $ left.
