Late Term and Child Loss

D&C question

I had my first ultrasound today at 11 weeks. I was not prepared for what happened. Upon doing the vaginal ultrasound the technician said, I'm sorry but this doesn't look like a healthy pregnancy. I just froze as tears streamed down. Apparently it was twins because there were two sacs, two yolks, but no heartbeat or fetal pole and I was looking more like I was five weeks. They explained to me how they just stopped developing and that it was a missed miscarriage. I'm going back Friday morning for the D&C procedure. My question is, do they do another ultrasound before the procedure? We thought about not doing the surgery and waiting another week to do a follow up ultrasound, but I just think that'd set us up for more disappointment. They seemed extremely confident that things weren't right. My husband and I are just trying to search for a glimmer of hope, but I'm afraid there is none. If anyone has experience with the procedure too I'd love any words of advice. Thanks.

Re: D&C question

  • I am so sorry for your loss. Most of the ladies here have had later losses or have lost an infant, and while there may be some who have also had experience with a D&C, I think you would find more advice on the miscarriage board. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thank you, and I'm sorry for posting on the wrong board. It's been a day that's been extremely hard. Again, thank you.
