Hospital Rant

Two weeks ago I took a hard hit to the belly, and the doctor sent me over to labor & delivery. They did blood work, ultrasound, and had me on the monitor for 6 hours. The on call doc was acting like my OB was being overly cautious, and he would have let me go home because everything looked good. He actually laughed at me because I was scared it was her head that got hit, but it was actually her bottom.

Fast forward to my appointment today and the doc says that blood work showed trauma and the monitor showed contractions. Everything seems okay, baby girl is back to kicking like crazy. My doctor is sending me for a NST on Friday and follow up blood work. I am just pissed off that I was led to believe everything was great, and it wasn't. Now I am nervous.

  • Ya major bullshit, I would def. be calling about that
  • That is horrible! I would be pissed too! I would be reporting to someone. Hope all is well with tests and blood work.
  • I called over and asked to speak with the unit manager, but was shuffled around.  But seriously, I thought I was crazy because of the pain I felt after the hit and then everyone acting like my doctor was crazy.

I am thankful my doctor was receiving the results to all of the tests and responding accordingly.  I am not sure where to take this with the hospital, but it was unacceptable.

Hoping that come Friday everything looks good.

  • What blood work would indicate Trauma?  I have not heard other ladies on this board talk about a test for this....

After being sent to the hospital, they did blood work, an ultrasound, and placed me on the monitor. Honestly, I am not sure what they are looking for with the blood work, but today at the appointment he said, "your blood work did indicate trauma, and since you had contractions we need to follow up with additional blood work & NST."

  • Yeah, I realize people hate this but as soon as the word lawyer comes out of your mouth, you get pointed in the right direction.

  • The doctor laughed at you? And you didn't punch him in the face?

  • Thank you all for the support/advice! I am not letting this go until I feel like the issue is resolved. @themiss‌ I wanted to punch him, but I started thinking maybe I was overreacting. Glad I didn't second guess myself then. Will update you all after tomorrow.

  • I know that at least around here, but I think around the nation too, patient satisfaction is becoming more and more vital to hospitals funding. Even if you think you were overreacting (which I totally don't think you were) you should still report it. They need to know.
  • I would definitely feel let down and angry, it's obvious that you would be anxious (and with good reason by the sound of it) and you were treated with no compassion and mocked, I would put a complaint in not just for myself but so that the dr in question could have a gentle reminder that its his job to take every person seriously which could then go on to benefit others in his care. Glad that everything is okay now
