3rd Trimester

Maternity Photos?

Any women doing (or do) a maternity photo shoot? If so, how far along are you? How did you prepare? Did you get your hair and makeup done? I have one scheduled, but I'm starting to get nervous that I'll just look awful! I've seen some great shots online, but I often wonder if they are "real women" and feel as good as they look!

Re: Maternity Photos?

  • I did mine at 32 weeks, It was like in the middle of July and I live in the south so it was like 98 degrees and that was at 10 am, I did my own hair and makeup but I kept getting hot and wiping my face and having to do touchups. But I think they turned out great. I had mine done on my boyfriends family farm

  • I had mine done at 33 weeks, and did my own hair and makeup. DH and I wore coordinating but not matching outfits, I had a shirt change half way through b/c I couldn't decide. We brought baby shoes, a wedding photo and my favorite childhood book. Almost all of them came out awesome, there are like 2 I don't love...I'm glad I waited, but not too long b/c my belly finally got all smooth and round around 31 weeks...and now I look uncomfortable and swollen. It was rainy and cool (like 70s...which was odd) but they turned out amazing. Even DH who usually looks terrible in pictures!

  • I really enjoy photography (but I'm not a professional) and have a really nice camera and different tripods and stuff.  DH & I went out to a park close to our house.  We dressed nice but nothing matching or anything.  I did my own hair and stuff too.  We set up the tripod and did a few shots of us together, the ones of just me he took.  We got a handful of nice ones, not nearly as many as you would get from a professional photo session.

I was 36 weeks when we went but I'm not having swelling issues or problems with the heat so I didn't think this mattered to me.  I'm actually happy I waited until 36 weeks because as it was in some of the shots I didn't look pregnant.

We talked about doing a professional shoot and I told DH I would prefer to save our money and do a family one at the end of the year once LO is here for the holidays.

From what I have been told 30-34 weeks is the best time to get your photos taken cause your pregnant but not huge... and its somewhat easier for you to get into a variety of poses than if you were 38 weeks pregnant... Also shop for an outfit that may not be maternity clothes something light and strechy to show off your beautiful curves. I got my toes done & did my own hair and makeup, I kept my make up simple and neutral.. if your not feeling as beautiful as you would like focus on making your favorite features about your self pop! Remember to smile and have fun. I had mine done @ 33 weeks.
  • I did mine at 32 weeks. Had a hard time figuring out what to wear. Just ended up wearing a skirt and used a scarf as a top in both outfit changes. Did my own hair and makeup. So happy we did them! Good luck!
  • I am a photographer so my DH and I did our own shoots on a beach not to far from home.
Brought the tripod and set the camera up. Got a lot of really nice shoots... did some inside as well. We did this at 36 weeks.
We rather wait until our LO arrives and have a family professional shoot done.
(sorry if the picture isn't all that great I'm on the mobile site)
  • Here are some samples of mine, I got my dress on clearence @ this sweet lil shop in the mall.

  • I'm having my done when I will be about 34 weeks. I plan on doing my own hair and makeup and keeping the makeup simple and neutral. As for clothing, I'm still trying to figure out what to wear.
  • I did at 32 weeks! A good photog can do some good poses; you don't need to worry. We made sure we didn't have clashing outfits and had pics taken at out house and a local park. We brought an ultrasound pic, a letter H for her name and some baby shoes. I did my normal hair and makeup. Relax! I shared some photo ideas I had with the photog using Pinterest.

  • I do photography on the side so I will be setting everything up and getting DH to shoot a few - my plan is to do a few around now and a few later on as the leaves change colors :)

I didn't want my face in my pics. I wanted DS & the belly to be the focus. I love them. Here are a few, but there were many that I loved!!! I did mine at 33 weeks.
  • I'm having maternity photos taken next week, when I'll be 32w2d. We'll be going to a park in Michigan and I hope the weather is nice. I'll do my own makeup, but I might get a blow-out or something because I can't and don't do anything with my hair! All you ladies look great! @Katia78‌, I love the scarf tops!

We had some taken when I was about 35ish weeks and they turned out great. I did my hair and makeup myself as I wanted to look "real" not wedding like.  I found an outfit (well three) that I was comfortable in and then just had DH pick out shirts that matched or complimented in color, so we did not clash.

Here is one of mine (without our faces) that I love...

  • When we announced that we were having a girl, we did these pics. Cute and simple. I do want a few good pictures done at around 30 weeks mostly as keepsake pics.  And it's switching over to Fall here in the Northwest, it gets absolutely beautiful with the trees changing colors.
