Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How to make my 3 week old baby sleep in the crib without crying?

I think she got use to sleeping while holding since birth. My family loves her so much (mostly my sisters) they won't stop hugging and holding her even she's asleep in the crib. Everytime she's falling asleep and trying to put her in the crib, she wakes up and starts crying non-stop that holding would stop crying.

  • You don't.  Babies crave closeness and physical contact.  It's incredibly normal for them to cry in their crib.  Is there a reason your DD needs to be in a crib?  Will she nap in a swing or rock n play?  Do you babywear?  At 3 weeks you should just be focused on getting her to sleep and not so concerned with the where.

FWIW, my DD starting sleeping in her crib at 12 weeks and DS around 6 mos.

  • I have a little carrycot that I placed inside the crib, and I would swaddle him before putting him into that.
After being so snug and cozy inside your womb for months, it must be a bit of a shock to suddenly be in this big open space, all alone. So the combination of swaddling and carrycot worked great. And now that he's 10 weeks he falls asleep in his crib without problems.
  • One does not simply put a newborn down to sleep.. Well during the day at least. Mines 14 weeks and we still have to wear him during the day or hold him to get naps in.
