Pregnant after IF

Thoughts on mixing Progesterone meds

My RE gave me the ok to switch from PIO to the vaginal suppositories whenever I want.  I was excited to not have to lug around a bunch of needles when I travel later this week, and more importantly not give myself the shots!  However, the suppositories were really expensive, I only have 3 weeks worth, and I still have 2 vials of PIO left.

I'm wondering if any of you ladies used the suppositories a few days, then switched back to PIO without issues?  I want to get my monies worth out of everything I have.  I can ask the nurse, but I think I drove her crazy with all my questions yesterday.  So figured I'd check here for any advice.

Re: Thoughts on mixing Progesterone meds

  • @Ducky719 For now I'm assuming they'll keep me on progesterone for about 6 more weeks, since they haven't told me and 11-12 weeks seems to be the longest I've seen on here...although that may change once they check my levels again at my u/s at week 8.

Normally, I'd wait to finish up the PIO, but since I'm traveling along I'm just so anxious about giving myself the shot this weekend.

  • I'm currently taking both PIO and Endometrin. There is no way I'd be able to give myself a PIO shot.  (mostly because I'm not brave enough to stick that giant needle in my rear by myself!)  I'd go ahead & switch over to the supp. - more expensive but you forget about that in years to come.  I cannot wait to wrap up these PIO shots!  But...if it helped us get a sticky baby, it's been worth it!

Dirty lurking, not quite ready to intro here yet. But I just got back from an overnight business trip where I had to do my first solo PIO shot. I was worried, but it was no big deal. Just do it on the side of your dominant hand, and remember it can be a bit towards the outer hip (totally reachable). In fact, it didn't even hurt. I was surprised how much force it takes to push that oil in, though! DH has never mentioned it, but I did all of my own stim injections so I guess he doesn't know any different.
  • Having been in the same situation as @gsancho, I made the switch from PIO to the oral capsules inserted vaginally. I could not manage the PIO shot myself. It was one less thing to worry about on my trip.

Kudos to folks like @heathereb23 who succeeded.
