Trouble TTC a Sibling

Anyone seeing an MFM?

I've asked this before on TTCAL, but the majority of ladies over there seem to be seeing REs.  My OB is recommending a MFM since I don't seem to have issues getting pregnant (or through first tri) but staying pregnant.  Have our consult with the MFM on the 16th.  Just wondering if any others here are seeing a MFM for their TTFAS woes?

  • Clearly I am not because I don't known what it is. Please be my Google and share.

Regardless, I hope the appointment really well!

  • I have an MFM (maternal fetal medicine doctor) as well as a RE. I saw the MFM throughout my twin pregnancy and will see them again if I'm lucky enough to ever make it to 13w due to my history of PTL. But my understanding is that most MFM's won't see or treat you prior to the second trimester. Have you been told differently? My RE handles all testing, conception assistance, and first tri monitoring.

I asked my OB this after my latest loss, expecting her to say yes but she said no.  So I guess not.  Perhaps it's because we don't have one in my town and instead my OB plans to consult with one rather than send me 50 miles to see one in person.

  • I only saw one with my first pregnancy due to GD. It has never been discussed from my OB, but then I've "only had two miscarriages" so they won't even do testing yet anyway.  8-|

  • Thanks ladies.  I have my consult with the MFM in 2 weeks.  My understanding is that an REs focus is on those with issues getting pregnant and getting through first tri.  Since I've had one successful pregnancy and now 2 second tri losses, my issues are more related to high risk care.  Part of me wonders if I will go to this consult and then be told to go see an RE... who knows???  I haven't come across many ladies on here that are seeing an MFM without some specific high risk diagnosis, so I guess I'm a speshul snoflayk :-/

  • @Nieko0423 I'm in the same boat as you. "You've had a normal pregnancy and have ONLY had 2 miscarriages" Seriously?! 2 losses in 6 months is enough to make me feel like there is something going on, but what do I know.. I'm also in the boat where I don't have trouble getting pregnant but so far am struggling this time around making it past 7 weeks.

@sunflwra I'm so sorry for your losses. It does make sense that you would see an MFM with having 2 high risk losses. I hope you get some answers!

It really sucks! My first miscarriage was most definitely my fault as I was moving into a new house not knowing I was pregnant. But when the second one happened 7 months later they never even wanted to see me. Praying neither of us gets to our 3rd! Hugs!
