Trouble TTC a Sibling

Newbie here, ovulation test feedback?

Hello! I'm totally new to this app. I have a question and hopefully I can get some feedback.
I already have a beautiful 2.5 year old girl. My hubby and I have been trying to conceive since January 2014, and unsuccessful. With my first, we got pregnant first try! This time...it's totally different!
I bought my first ovulation test ever. We were trying not to use one...but gave in. I followed the directions perfectly and the test seemed to work normal. But now it's the waiting game. Waiting to take a pregnancy test. I'm due to take one on the 15th this month but the wait is going to drive me crazy...I can already tell cause now I'm thinking maybe the ovulation test doesn't work?
My question is, has anyone ever used the first response ovulation test and actually got pregnant?!
Feedback would be great!
Thank you!

  • I'm not really sure what you are asking. The tests can help you predict ovulation, to help you hit your fertile window, but that is all that they do.

  • Yes, I use them every month to detect my surge. I then go off my temperatures to confirm ovulation. I've had a couple of surges not result in ovulation but that's not the tests fault. It happens sometimes.

To answer your question, yes, I have gotten pregnant after using opks to detect my surge. I've gotten pregnant 3/12 ish times using them.

  • Yes- OPKs is mainly what I use.  I use them a cycle or two before TTC just to get an idea of my cycle and then I've gotten pregnant either the first or second try with my 3 pregnancies.  I've only come home with one kid so far, so take it for what it's worth, but yes- they helped me target the right dates to HIO.

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.

  • I love OPKs!  I had success with my first pregnancy with them!

  • Yes, OPKs tell you when you are having an LH surge, meaning that your body is gearing up to ovulate.  Keep in mind that the line on the OPK needs to be just as dark or darker than the control line to indicate a positive.  A faint line on an OPK is not a positive.  Also, a dark line does NOT mean that you did actually ovulate, only temping will tell you that.  And, like @dani_brewer said, it can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive even with using OPKs, temping and timing intercourse perfectly.

  • OPKs help pinpoint when O happens, it detects your surge in hormones, but temping is ultimately the only way to confirm O, unless you get bloodwork done...

JW, but did you read the description for this board? 9 months is a relatively short time to be TTC compared to most women that find themselves here. Just a word of caution, I prob wouldn't be complaining too much about it considering some women here have been ttc unsuccessfully for 12, 24, 46 months etc.... and most of us have diagnosis'. Impatience is not IF, nor "trouble" ttc... give it time, dont jump the gun and just assume you are going to have all kinds of difficulty this time a round.
