Random thought

So, while reading about the lady who swept her own membranes, I had a random thought. If more cervical checks can lead to a higher risk if infection, does sex also raise that same risk? Also, what about foreplay that goes down in that area? Seriously had this honest to God question and figured I'd let you ladies weigh in.

With both pregnancies DH and I have continued sex as normal with no problems. My water broke at 38+5 last time and this time I'm sitting here at 39+2 with nothing going on so far.

As long as your OB doesn't put you on pelvic rest I would think it's totally fine. It's not like H is trying to get up in the cervix or anything.

  • lol I'm not concerned about it, just curious how they're different if the dr washes their hands. Maybe my brain just can't make the connection at the moment, but I am really curious as to how sex doesn't risk infection, but cervical checks do. Lol I often have weird random thoughts like this.
  • I believe it's because with the cervical check, there's the risk you can enter the cervical opening and accidentally touch and/or rupture the membranes and introduce whatever bacteria was on your hands/under your nails. No idea if that's the actual reason, but that's what I assume.
That would be my guess too.
  • Thanks, just wasn't connecting the dots for me :)
