Cloth Diapering

Flips vs best bottom or another option?

We need to buy moar diapers so we don't have to wash every day. Mister prefers AIO, but they take foreverrrrrr to dry and both of us are starting to hate pockets (stuffing and unstuffing is the suck). I would like to buy enough of one style to send the same kind to daycare every day. I did contemplate buying a large pack of bamboo kawaii since they're cheapy and IDGAF if something happened to them at daycare. I asked at daycare if they had a preference, and they said they didn't care except they didn't want to stuff pockets. Lol.

  • Best Bottoms are smaller, but they have double gussets.  You can use the snap in inserts which daycare will probably like better.  I would also ask Daycare if they can re-use covers.  Most of the time they are required to use a completely new diaper for each change.

Flips are bigger, they didn't fit my daughter well until about 4-6 months.  I like that you can tuck inserts under the front and back flap.  However, inserts can also wiggle as you are trying to get the cover on.

  • Have you tried Totsbots Easyfits V4? They are probably the fastest drying AIO that I've tried. It has a long soaker that does need to be tucked in, but it's still a bit easier to deal with than a pocket.
  • I've never used Flips, but Best Bottoms are our go-to daytime dipes. We send enough covers with inserts already snapped in so that they can be used like an AIO, though sometimes daycare unsnaps the insert and re-uses the cover (we also leave extra inserts there in her bin).

I'd go with best bottoms then.

  • I like BB Velcro shells more than the snap shells.....than again, I have preferred Velcro over snaps on all my diapers, except the Kawaii pockets and that was due to fit when ds was 3ish months old and newbie me didn't realize he was too small for them still so I sold the Velcro ones.

  • I do flips with a BB insert. It won't snap in, since flips don't have snaps and all, but I like that they are sized, stay dry, and no weird folding. And cheaper than flip inserts! ~$3something vs ~$5. I bought my BB inserts gently used for $3.

  • Best Bottoms!
  • Overally I think Best Bottoms are easier for DC.  Especially if they are going to actually be reusing the cover.

That being said, they do have a fairly short rise...which is not good for tall babies since you might outgrow them before PL'ing.

Also I agree that the snap ones don't give quite as good a fit as aplix/h&L.

I second something like trifolded prefolds or some other insert (maybe appleCheeks 2-ply folded in half for less folding?) laid in a cover. I like this for two reasons, the biggest is it's natural fibers.  I could totally see someone giving your normal care provider a break & putting a BB or Flip insert in with the MF touching baby. Second, this is way more versatile.  You can get a cover you really like, and change inserts for more/less absorbency for naps, as baby grows, eats more solids and less liquids, etc.
