Mouth guard & temping

Quickie question... Does wearing A mouthguard at night affect basil body temping? I wear it bc I grind my teeth which causes migraines. I stopped wearing it when I started temping and my DH says I grind my teeth pretty bad again.

Re: Mouth guard & temping

  • I would temp vaginally if I wore a mouthguard- it will alleviate any issues with oral temping.  Best wishes

  • I wear a mouth guard, and I don't have any trouble with my temps. Do you mouth breathe while you sleep? That might be an issue.

  • I would say to just try temping orally for a cycle or two with your mouth guard in and see how it goes. If you find you aren't getting clear charts, switch to vaginal, if you get clear charts, carry on.

  • I haven't had any problems getting a clear temperature change, and I wear a mouth guard and a CPAP mask.  Only problem has been being awake enough to remember to remove it before I stick the thermometer in my mouth, always feel like I'm going to damage the thermometer when I forget and try to close my mouth.  But that's so unpleasant feeling it wakes me right up, take out the mouth guard, and resume.
    IUD removed 2/13/14

  • As long as you're doing the same thing every day, it should be ok. As far as I understand, the idea is to see a change in temperature, not to focus on particular values, and the exact temperature will vary from woman to woman any way.  Your temperatures may be a little bit lower if you keep your mouth open while you sleep, but they should be a little bit lower throughout your cycle, and by the same amount, so your pattern wouldn't really change.

    Sorry - *sig warning *

Similar to @DjinnaG, I just take my mouthguard out to temp and put it back in for my last hour or so of sleep.

  • Thanks everyone for all the feedback. I stopped wearing it when I started temping but I'm going to start wearing it again just as soon as my new cycle starts. @marijaa333‌ you have a REALLY good point!
