Flonase and pregnant...

So I wake up gagging on snot in my throat I can't get to move and half asleep I grab the first thing I see Flonase and without thinking spray once in each nostril. I then use some saline and then proceed to try to clear my throat and spit a lot out (sorry to be so in detail, but I don't think I kept a lot in is what I am trying to say). After this I lay back down and realize that I might should of not used the Flonase.. So I google. I am now worrying that I have hurt my baby. I swear if I wasn't half asleep I most likely wouldn't of done this. I have been refraining from taking any meds and I even only take my prescription medications every other day. So the question... Has anyone used Flonase in any other pregnancy before and everything turn out okay? Please help me to ease my mind.

Re: Flonase and pregnant...

  • You're fine. I wouldn't use it long term unless absolutely necessary & ok'ed by my doc, but a one time use is NBD.

  • Oh my people... I am taking them as I am suppose to don't worry about that. It is one pill for my blood pressure that I monitor every day and it stays 120/70s. My dr knows that I am doing that, but said that if my blood pressure gets worse I'll have to take daily. I was doing that before I was pregnant. No big deal... I was just concerned that I took Flonase and trying to show a point that I take bare minimum. No worries though now I texted my friend who is my ob's nurse and she said it was fine.
  • I'll use Flonase or Afrin or whatever I have every so often when I get too miserable to breathe and nothing else works. I wouldn't drink the bottle or use it daily but a spray in your nose is highly unlikely to hurt your baby.

PP were just concerned. They weren't asking to be assholes.
  • Have you tried a netti pot? I think that's how it is spelled :/
They help a lot with congestion, and it's saline water. You can buy it over the counter.
I'm sure it's fine that you only used the spray this one time, but ya... Check with your dr before you use anything you aren't sure about.
  • I take flonase every day, approved by my doctor. You should be fine.

  • Rhinocort is class B, Flonase is class C. They're essentially the same thing though. There just aren't as many studies on Flonase. Either way, it's a topical steroid and very minimally absorbed into your system such that your baby would be exposed to anything. My allergies got bad this week, and I started using Flonase. I also used it a bit during my previous pregnancy, and DD is 100% healthy.
  • I just had Flonase approved by my Dr.'s office. You should be fine.
  • ive used Flonase several times. I think its fine.
