TTC after 35

New to the Forum - TTC for 18 months

Hi, I'm LookinforaStork. TTC #1 for 18 months now, pretty much the month after my 35th b-day. I've been taking the OPKs for the last 12 months. 4 mths ago went to see a RE and found out I had high prolactin levels & got me on meds to keep it under control. Started me on Clomid and last try was with trigger shot, all so far have been timed BD. This weekend started off rough, as they took bloodwork on Thurs. and got me on Estrogen and Progesterone, as my levels were low..then on Fri. I start spotting, when I called to see if this was normal, they had me come in on Sat. morn and after more tests got a BFN. DH got mobility tested year ago and everything was fine with him. AF came today. So now, the RE is recommending being more proactive and the next step would be IUI. I only have 2 more clomid opportunities left, what happens if they don't work? Has anyone gone through more than 6 times, or would I have to consider IVF on my 6th time. It's all so overwhelming, I did not think it would be this hard. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    All welcome

  • Welcome!

I skipped clomid altogether and moved on to IUI with injectables.  We're only doing two before moving on to IVF.  Depending on what your doctor thinks is best for you based on your bloodwork, etc, trying the injectables with IUI before moving on to IVF might be a good opportunity to see  how your body responds to the meds and do some fine-tuning before going all-in.

Hopefully you'll be successful before that, though.  Good luck!

  • Welcome to the board. I have just started Clomid this cycle so I have no advice but as noted above, there might be a couple other boards to check out and lots of different experiences here.  Since it had been over a year of trying my doctor retested my DH with an SA
  • Hi. I did two IUIs with Femara and 3 IUIs with injectables. I regret that I didn't move to IVF sooner, but was following my insurance protocol. Best of luck to you.

  • Thanks everyone! Great advice IFinTn, I'll look into the other forum. Did have my HSG checked and tubes are open.
  • I'm late to the thread, but wanted to say WELCOME and reiterate that there are plenty of other medications that could be tried if your RE thinks you've done too many rounds of Clomid.  I haven't done IUI but I've moved on to Femara & Ovidrel because Clomid thinned my lining.  Femara is also an oral medication.  Then, injectables.  So, don't worry too much about approaching the Clomid max.  Speak with your RE about it.  Good luck!

  • Hello ladies, thanks for making me feel super welcome, for all the well wishes, and for sharing your own experiences. So DH and I went to see the RE today, and we decided to get DH tested again for his mobility, as the test was 1.5 yrs ago and in another state so this RE does not have the results. Tried to get them sent over, and guess it did not work. In the meantime, going to try one more Clomid cycle and by the time the results are in we'll decide if just timed BD or IUI. According to my RE I can still use Clomid a few more times if needed, but after the initial 3-4 the effectiveness decreases. So know back to waiting and seeing what happens. FX.
