Trouble TTC

New Here

My name is Rachel, and I am 26 years old.  We have been TTC for two years.  After a year of trying on our own, I was diagnosed with PCOS.  Along with some other symptoms of PCOS, my biggest issue is that I do no ovulate.  My doctor tried Clomid and Femara, and both did absolutely nothing.  He referred me to a Reporductive Endocrinologist, and we discussed starting injections.  I have a very high AMH level (lots of eggs), so he is very concerned about overstimulating my ovaries.  It took us a while to get ready for that (I am a teacher, so you know that we had to save for a while!), but today will be Follistim injection number 8.  This cycle has been a whirlwind.  On day 4, I went in for a scan and blood work.  The nurse said she saw a 13mm follicle growing, and I was so happy.  I have never had any follicles grow, so I was relieved that it was working.  My estrodial was low, so he upped my dose a tiny bit, and brought me back in day 6.  The doctor scanned me, and needless to say, the nurse had made a mistake.  She measured a nabothian cyst on my cervix, and told me that it was a follicle.  I am still not responding to the Follistim injections (because I am STILL bleeding.  Day 8 of this horrible period.) I am so confused about how this huge mistake could have been made!  The doctor was shocked at this mistake as well.  He upped my dose again, and I will go again tomorrow morning to see what is going on at this point.

I know this is a lot for an introduction, but I am knee-deep in these treatments, and I feel like nobody else understands what this feels like.  I hope this will become a home for me to talk about these issues with others who have been through all of this mess, and can relate to the struggle.

Re: New Here

  • Hello, and welcome! I'm so sorry to hear about the mistake. The stress surrounding IF is difficult as it is--and then come the ups and downs of getting more information. I hope your RE soon figures out a combination that works for you. I don't have PCOS, but tons of ladies here do, so I know you will find the support you need here. Good luck to you!

I am so very sorry for the nurses mistake.  I cannot imagine your disappointment and anger at this.  This is definitely a safe place to get advice, vent, and get support.  I understand the struggle of saving and the stress of getting time off as a fellow teacher.  Just know that it is all worth it and, as I said in my previous post, family comes first and if you are ready for a family then now is the best time to do it.  Don't give up!  Your time will come and hopefully very soon!  I will add you to my prayer list and hopefully some day very soon we can be BFP buddies!

  • Again, THANK YOU! to everyone for being so welcoming!

I went back to the RE today, and this time is actually do have follicles growing! I have three in each ovary, and they are all measuring 10mm at this point. He is slowly going to take my dosage of Follistim down for the next three nights, and then I will go back again on Friday for another ultrasound and bloodwork. My estradiol also went up from 80 on Friday to the 300s today. Just praying that this actually means this cycle won't be a waste.
