Help!!! Sleep Issues

My DS is 2.5. He has never been a good sleeper.  My DH had back surgery so he is not sharing our bed and hasn't for years, because of this I bed shared with our son for about 2 years.  Shortly before our next DS arrived we brought him down to his room.  He did ok at first but now he's having such a hard time.  It's not that he won't sleep in his bed but he wakes constantly and tosses and turns all night.  Some nights are better than others. By this I mean he wakes only once or twice and goes back down quickly.  Other nights he's up for hours!  He also has night terrors on occasion.  My DH is a stay at home dad so it's not like he has to be at work the next day and we are stressed about that.  However, he is miserable the next day.  I feel terrible for him.  He's crabby and grumpy and just not happy.  Has anyone been through something similar? Suggestions?

Re: Help!!! Sleep Issues

  • Does he have some sort of a security blanket or toy he can use when he wakes?  Perhaps he is still feeling a little anxious sleeping in the new location.

I have friends that also have found that having white noise, such as a fan, on help their child sleep through the night.  (There are lots of CD's out there that have nature sounds or water that may be comforting??)

I agree, that it's probably a good idea to check with his doctor about the night terrors.

All the best, hopefully it is a phase he will grow out of soon.
